The nice thing about running the huge lipo packs is IMO you don't even need the greatest cells. We are talking only like 2c average... or less. Of course the amp surges are still very high.... +100A but the big packs (8000mah+) can handle it.

So you can go with budget lipos, which are now like 8C. I have some old 4000mah cells I got from truerc a couple years ago almost, that are only about a true 4-5C cell. They crap out any higher than that. And they seem to run great in my emaxx and 1/8 buggy. I will say I have limited use with them, and haven't pushed these cells in runtime... more just in testing, speed runs etc. Oh, and I run them in 2p and 3p packs... that's what allows them to do ok.

Point is, I think we can run the budget cells... don't have to shell out the big bucks for the latest 15/20c + stuff.

Some of these are cheaper per mah than brand name nickel cells.

Those are the guys (like craps) that I was referring to, craps runs a Pletty Extreme, which has a kv in the mid-4000s, and he runs 8000mah, getting about 30mins on the track.

That's a very good point. In fact, none of my packs (even my new ones) are rated at more than 10C continuous. Two of my packs (4s 6600mah and 5400mah) are 8C. Two other packs I have are 6000mah 10C (2s by Maxamps) and 6400mah 10C (2s by True RC).
Oh wait, I forgot I have a 4s (12.8v) 3600mah 16C pack that uses Saphion cells :005:.

It depends. There's no need to spend a lot of money (IMO) unless you need the lightest and most powerful battery you can get for that lowest weight. If that's the case, then Thunder Power batteries would be the way to go.

If the capacity is high enough, then you can get away with 8C easily, like I do with my Rustler.

Ditto... it's not that the 20C type cells are not better, cause they are. They hold higher voltage under load, etc....

But when you have a 8000mah or bigger battery, even the lower rated cells won't break a sweat too bad in our trucks.

The 20C type batteries are superior, and I would recomend the best you can get for smaller lighter (lower capacity) packs.

But if you can run hard for 30min or more, I wouldn't worry much about the cells ratings.

Basically put, if you have a 2P config, the cheaper cells will be fine, but if you need a 1P setup for weight or for whatever reason, the 20C cells would be a wiser choice.

I'm actually pretty certain that all you need is a 3s 8000 mah pack from max amps and a 380c 13 turn will get 1 hour of runtime and not overheat. And even if this motor is only pulling 8 amps on average, performance will be between that of a 380c 8t and a 380c 6l on 2s. Any faster and you'd probably break something well before the 1 hour mark.

Yes. Torque is a function of amps, so you need a good enough battery to be able to wheelie whenever you want. SpEEdyBL's suggestion for 3s 8000mah would provide lots of wheelies.
