If I were to take a guess, I would think their batteries are Thunder Power batteries. TP generally matches the cells in their packs well enough that the packs shouldn't need to be balanced.
Not using a balancer on a pack with high quality cells that are matched by IR and capacity shouldn't be a problem unless there is some physical damage. Lower quality/non-matched packs will have a much greater chance of going out of balance, and so with them there is more danger involved with not using a balancer.
