Bearings issues -
08.17.2006, 06:34 PM
I've got some 16x5 ceramic bearings which have a narrower outer frame than the ones the UE 16x5x6 have.
That's the only problem my ceramics have. BUT THEY DONT SNUG IN THE RACER X KNUCKLES BECAUSE THEIR OUTER FRAME IS NARROW.
Do you guys know of a way to take the bearing apart so that I can put the ceramic balls in the race of the UE cage and thus it can snug in the knuckles?
Or, if there is a way to fill up the space between the outer frame of the ceramic bearing and the hole of the knuckle via a certain type of spacer or anything?
Please help me as much as you can.
Thanks,
Alawi El-Jifri

A 16x5 should be a 16x5. I would just use the originals and not worry about it. I'm sure the RacerX bearings are good bearings.

Yeah, but the UE ones are 6x15x5mm and the ceramics are like 6x14,5x5mm.
Please squee, if you know of a way to solve this I'll be most appreciative.

I'm sorry I misinformed about the ACTUAL bearing sizes in the first post.

Ok, uh, are they metal or rubber shielded bearings?

First of all, I have to appologize again and tell you that the UE ones are 6x16x5mm and the Acers are 5x15x5mm .
Now, there is actually a 1mm difference between the UE and the Acers.
How can I increase the diameter of the ceramics?
They're rubber shielded.

You got the wrong bearing's... Like Squee said, every bearing has the same dia size, except rare and special bearing's but those cost allot of $$ so I doubt you got those.
And even if you can get it to work, you run 6 mm steel cvd's so they won't fit that bearing.
Boca should have them. But they still are expensive.

The axels did go through the ceramic's 6mm hole( its not 5mm like I said, SORRY AGAIIIIIIIIN). I dont really know what's wrong with me.
I'll give you the measures again:
Ceramics: internal= 6 outer= 15 wid= 5mm
UE: internal= 6 outer= 16 wid= 5mm
This is how it should be.

I guess you could pull the rubber shields of and just switch the balls, but they are probably smaller in the ceramic bearings.

I spoke to Mike and he did not like the ceramics idea saying that they are precisioned to the point that they might get deformed with the smallest elements like debris and dirt.
I believe taking out the balls from the races requires more than just popping out the seals, Squee.
I've never disassembelled a bearing befor. I dont know how either.

I would just stick with the UE ones.

I managed to go to a lathe shop and asked them to make me some 1mm sleeves to make the 15x6x5mm ceramics equal to the 16x6x5mm UE bearings.
The results are quite nice:

Looks good, I would possible be worried about them coming out. You might want to glue them in or something.
