RC-Monster Brushless Heatsink/clamp -
08.23.2006, 07:18 AM
Just a though,
I was just thinking about something while reading through the sticky about the RC-Monster Brushless Heatsink/clamp. And that is has anybody used any thermal compound between the heatsink and the motor? Something like Arctic Silver 5 or whatever, like use would use between your computer cpu and the heatsink. Because I am sure that the motor can and the heatsink don't have that perfect of a fit between them. Not knocking the heatsink design at all, it looks great. Because more heat can travel through a solid to the heatsink than air. Just something to think about.

Yeh, thermal paste used on PC components, would work.

I have heard of someone doing that, can remember who it was, but they said it worked great. He didn't say however the difference it made. :(

I've done it and it seems to work, but I haven't done a side-by-side comparison to get exactly how much better it is. With the thermal goop, the heatsink actually feels hotter (because it is more efficient at pulling the heat from the motor). Plus, it's a little messy as it attracts dirt where some squeezes out the sides a little.
IMO, if the motor is getting too hot, it is either overloaded (by too much voltage & current, or truck weight) or needs to be geared differently.

That is true Brian G. Gearing for me is vital, if I'm too high, I'm too hot, and on my other emaxx, it has much weight and i cannot run th esame system as well. finding the comfort zone for me was not that easy, but once i did! ZOOM ZOOM!
