Need Brushless System for Motorcycle - 08.30.2006, 08:09 AM

I just picked up a Thunder Tiger FM-1e motorcycle and I need some sugestions on a brushless system for it. It takes a 540 size motor and I will be running 2s lipo. Here is an article by RC Car Action on it http://www.rccaraction.com/articles/tiger_bike.asp

I seen a brushless motor cycle around. I think they put a basic lehner in it. It looked to do pretty good.

Mike.L I have a video of it that you would like (doing wheelies) but I do not know how to upload it (8.44 meg wmv file). It is the same bike that I have but I do not know what motor and esc he is using. Do you think that maybe one of the Mamba Max Combos would work?

Mtroniks make a speed controller designed specifically for bikes, called the Mtroniks Genesis Ride. Available from a couple of shops oversea's, and lots of shops in europe. Its a good unit, like a Mtroniks Pro for cars, but designed specifically with bikes in mind.

I sold my Lehner Basic 5300 to a guy who used it in a bike, he said it performed brilliantly in there. Same bike as yours I believe. Lots of others use the cheaper Feigao 380C 6T & 7T's in them which apparently work quite well in a bike.

A Mamba Max 5700 combo would work quite well, but the throttle profiles and the like would need to be adjusted for optimal use in a bike. I'm quite sure the motor would be heavier than a 380C one as well.

I saw the Mtroniks one at Starluck RC.
http://www.starluckrc.com/catalog/pr...roducts_id=146
They even have a combo with a Feigao 380c 7T motor.
http://www.starluckrc.com/catalog/pr...roducts_id=158
But the bike takes a 540 size motor (I beleive the mounting hole dia. is about 6mm smaller on a 380 size motor). I have read that some people have used the Novak 5800ss combo but I was looking for a little bit more power.

The 380C motors are 540 size on the outside. The whole point about the "C" version is that they will work with cars where a 540 might be too heavy or powerful. So, that means that the 380C motors have a standard 540 bolt pattern (either 25mm or 1in. [25.4mm]).

Yup. The 380C's will mount up perfectly to the bike. I've seen a couple of bikes in the UK run them. They're powerful little motors.

The combo on Starluckrc's site you linked to is an excellent price for what your getting. I would recommend it. The ESC also has adjustable brakes, which I wish the rest of the Mtroniks controllers had sometimes.

I think sensored brushless systems are better for this bikes.

LRP Sphere with Vector 3 or 4 stars or Novak GTB/ Velociti 6.5 or 5.5 are great.

For doing wheelies you will need good slick tires (PMT).

If you want a rocket, the Hyperion VX 3.700mA lipos fit in the battery case (you have to cut a little of plastic) and are not too expensive.

I tried to upload to the site that Coolhandcountry linked to but it says that it can not find the file (I am trying this from work so it may have something to do with our internet security). I can try it from home this weekend but it will take a while because I only have dialup and the file is over 8 meg.

I found where I got video from.
