Full charge? - 09.11.2006, 09:31 AM

So i started to charge my lipo. one 3s2p and one 2s2p. i get a message after awhile that the "output voltage is too high". They were not fully drained from my run and sat for a day. So, when I got the batts off the charger, i plugged my series balance adaptor in and all was fine. But after about 1 hour, the balancer was still balancing cells 3 4 and 5? Can i continue a charge in series for 5s to get the full charge and balancing all in line? I think the packs are at different charges though, meaning, one might be close to full, the other may not be as far in the charge...how do i get them BOTH at full charge safely?

Ok. After trying just charging my 2s, the amps are dropping from 4amps, to almost 0 now. I'm assumming htis means the battery is almost at full charge? Is this correct?

It is odd that there are that many cells out of balance. If one pack has more of a charge than the other, I would definitely charge them both so they are the same level before hooking them up together to the charger or even a load. You should treat these seperate packs as one since that is how you are using them. Once you get them all to the same charge level, you should discharge them and charge them together.

The charger starts in constant current (CC) mode, which locks the current but allows the voltage to rise steadily as the batts get charged. Once 4.2v per cell is reached, the charger switches from constant current mode to constant voltage (CV) mode, which locks the voltage and lets the current drop until it gets to about 0.1A.

I've found the CC part of the charge is about 1/2 to 2/3 of the full charge, with the CV part providing the rest. So, if the charger is erroring out before it gets to the CV stage, you still have a substantial amount of charge time remaining.

Naw, you just need some time to play with it and figure things out. You have to start somewhere right?
