Anodizing how-to - 05.06.2005, 12:15 PM

13-17% battery acid, mixed with demineralised water. take a lead plate as a - pole and a 12V power supply. and make the material – pole. Be sure no copper or other materials then the lead and the aluminium are touching the mixture. (use a plastic bowl)

Rule of thumb is to use 10.000A on one square meter in one minute for a proper result..
If you have got a 5A powersupply and you want to anodize 10X10cm (sorry for this metric sizes) you need 20 minutes of time.

Before you start it, you need to make the aluminium clean. I made the surface rough before the anodizing. (600 grid waterproof sandpaper)

After the anodize is finished, you need to seal the product in boiling demineralised water for 30 minutes. You can also add colour to the aluminium, simple by using dye, used for painting cloths. When you want to use a colour, you need to know that the water may not be boiling, You can play with the temperature, but you need to know that when it’s sealed it doesn’t take any colour anymore.

Please note, that you need to do this outside doors, it is very nasty on cotton and your eyes and skin. The accid can become hot when you are anodizing.
