Brushless MBX5 MSR? Is this possible? - 09.25.2006, 05:07 PM

first post to this site, but an RC fan going on 5 yrs. Great site you have here and lookforward to reading and learning a ton...

Is it possible to convert an MBX5 MSR to a brushless Truggy? Running nitro near is getting incredibly difficult.

Thanks

First off, welcome to the forums! The Mugen truggy would be my first choice to convert. It will make a fine conversion. Go with something like a Quark 125 and a Neu 1515 for it. How many volts do you plan on running?

i haven't given that a thought yet. I have a buddy that works for HH so the quark or the mamba would be my first choices. Since I'm a brushless newb I not sure which would be best.

as for converting the MSR, what would i need? Just a new motor mount, spur and pinion? if anyone has a link to a conversion set that would be great.

My buddy runs the KD conversion for his Savage and loves it....

The Mugen is too new to find much specific to it, but there are a few truggy conversions around here.

You can do it like mine if you like... thread here....

And if you are planning on running 4S lipo, you can use the mamba-max as well! which is a cheap alternative to run the Neu motors on.

The Mamba Max can handle 4s with no problems?
I thought I read where it handles 2s-3s Lipos.

It can handle 4s Lipo, but you need to use a UBEC or a receiver pack. The internal BEC is rated at 3s Lipo max., and so that's the main reason why Castle Creations says rates it like that.

Yes... it has a 12.0v setting.

You can actually use the software to make the cutoff whatever you want... so if say 11.9v sounds better to you.... there you go.

It should be noted that the custom cutoff voltage can only be accessed with the computer software. If you only do manual programming, you are stuck with the canned 3.0v/cell cutoff.
