Yep, loosen up that slipper. From the AE manual, they state a properly adjusted slipper should slip for 3' - 4' from a dead stop. I cranked mine down tight yesterday and had the same wheelie problems you were having. Loosening up the slipper will fix you right up. Using the diff as a slipper...ehhhh...I'm not sure if I'd want to do that.
