Thank you that is what I was looking for. I have know experience with this and a wrong purchase can be an expensive mistake.

I will see about getting something more like what you are stating.

Thanks,
John

Yes the nimh would be good. Get a temp gun if you don't have one.
You may get few pinions for the up and down movement of your gearing.

I ran the selection thru the calculator. I think I told you to slow on pinion.
15 49 will put you in the 28 mph range on 4s lipo. So you can go up on that.
I am not sure how fast you are shooting for either.

I want to be able to beat Nitros. I am thinking 40-50 mph. Is that asking too much?

Why do you feel the Phoenix will not work? I understand that the 6XL may be too much motor. Would a 7XL be more in line or should I go to the 8XL?

Thanks for being patient with me.

John

Well for the cell count you running it will require more amperage.
If you want alot of speed and power up the cell counts.
6s will get you there alot faster than 4s will. Rene on here is more of a
savage man than me. I have only built one. It was with the 3 speed to.
It is easier to get higher speeds with more voltage. A 9xl on 6s is a power
house that will get you there fast to. I wasn't sure on speed you wanted.
It is not problem man. I just want to make sure you get the proper system.
Hate to give wrong advice. If you shooting for that speed I would step it up
on voltage.

Who is Rene? I cannot find a User Name...

This truck is only for fun and to try something different. Should I be so concerned with this or what?

I am doing more thinking on this rig than my two crawlers.:035:

OK guys here she is.

I put her on a diet and dropped a wopping 4.5 lbs off her.

She now sits at 7 lbs in the pic. I will be running 40 series Dish 23MM with Crimefighters. That ads another 2 lbs.

To keep the lower CG I have softened the springs so I have more droop. I will adjust once running it.

Any thoughts.

Looks really good! You should have one sweet truck when its brushless. If someone hasn't already said it, you really should run a plastic spur. The pinions get all chewed up on a metal spur due to the massive torque they produce...

I read that and will be replacing it. The metal gear was when I was running nitro.

I just have to figure out what gear combo I will need.

Thanks for the compliments.

Hi rckcrwlr,

I was running a 7XL with BK warrior 9920 & 5 or 6S lipo with 2 speed / mechanical brake & 15/49 gearing in stable condition before I got distracted. This is for bashing condition only though. Theoretical speed with this setup using 5S is around low 40's mph. She'll get there faster than the nitros though.

If I have enough money, I will go for 8XL with 6S using the same controller for a cooler running esc.

I also ran the same truck using 16/49 gearing with a Quark 125 & everything else the same on a track but ran into thermal ussues after a couple of laps.

Now I'm back to 5S, warrior 9920, 15/49 gearing & mech. brake. Will try this out soon on the track where the stress on the truck is much higher compared to bashing conditions. Hopefully, it will be ok.

Oh, by the way I live in the tropics where thermal issues are much more pronounced.

Regads,
Joe Ling

PS : are u the same person from clodtalk ?

Joe,
Thanks for the info. I am new to this as you read in the thread. This will mainly be for bashing and maybe some friendly dragracing. I want to run NiMh in the beginning and then go to LiPo. I think 40 mph is pretty fast for a MT. Especially that it will get to that speed a lot faster than nitro. I am hoping to that with the 3 speed it will keep temps down.

Not that is not me on Clodtalk...that is probably the only forum I am not on.

John

That looks nice. I like the savage x slipper more than the reg one. I has two pads instead of one.

This is a slipper of the savage X leroy. this one comes with the X-SS kit.. it's a steel spur. i too fancy the plastic spurs and the 'real' savage-X spur.
