L/XL can motors and current draw - 01.29.2007, 12:22 PM

Hello,

I'm trying to get up to speed on the more powerful brushless motors and was wondering something.

I'm doing a brushless 1/8 scale buggy conversion and ordered a Feigao 7XL motor for it. It was really a toss up for me between the 10L and the 7XL, as they have very similar kv ratings. I went with the advise of fellow forum members and got the 7XL because it should run cooler.

My question is this. The 10L is supposed to have a max current draw of around 60A and the 7XL has a max current draw of around 95A. That had me a bit concerned because of the loss of runtime. Now that I think about it though, the current draw of the 7XL really shouldn't hit anything close to 95A constant in my application, due to relative light weight of the buggy that I'll be running. With conservative gearing, I shouldn't take too much of a hit on runtime, should I?

Thanks
