4600kv motor getting very hot - 02.22.2007, 07:51 AM

I finally got a chance to connect up my 4600kv system today. I am running a 8000mah 3s2p pack. This is the first time I have ever run the motor and it was not connected to anything. I adjusted the settings for the Lipo cut off and that was all, I then programmed it with the receiver as per the instructions. I then tried a few blips of throttle and the then some brief WOT holds. I did this for 20 seconds and then the motor was almost too hot to touch! It had got really hot really quickly, but the esc was still totally cool. Am I doing anything wrong or is this normal? I am just really surprised that it got so hot so quickly

letting it rev all the way up without load is asking for trouble.

Have you had it WOT with the tires spinning in the air? For 20 seconds? That's asking for troubles! Never rev BL motors up without load!

Even driving in the street, has someone ever been at WOT for 20 seconds? You'd need alot of room.

Anyway, just put it down, drive around for a while, and check the temps.
The 8Ah 3S batts are rather heavy for a 1/10 car, you might want to gear accordingly.

Just hope you didnt damage anything without the load!

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

Oh bollocks...

Right - yeah it was not even connected to a pinion.
I had no idea about the no load thing - I don't think it said anything about that in the manual.

It should be ok as the 20s was for everything - it was not just keep the throttle buried for 20s

A LiPo 8000mah battery is not that heavy, most other people with the wild dagger will run 2X 4000mah Nimh packs and these weigh about 300grams more. Also the power is split between the two brushless systems
