The Mamba Max seems to respond well up to 14v reliably. Some have successfully run as high as 20v (5s fresh off the charger) I run 12 NiMh and have a set of 8cell NiMh's (would be 16-cells total) but have not tried them yet. The biggest issue is keeping the ESC cool. Put a fan on it, use a UBEC, and use an efficient motor that keeps the amp draw down.
