While the 540C XL motors hace a screwed on end bell the case is still pretty thin and there have been anumber of members here who have popped the front end bell off of the 540C XL motors. (me included)

With the smooth can the Rc-Monster heat sink takes alot of the stress and its solid aluminum so it can take it. In the end the smooth can with the heatsink/clamp is tougher than the 540C.

You did mention wanting to do some jumping and other stuff so I'd second that recomendation of the smooth can with the heatsink. A couple extra bucks for the heatsink, but in the end it will be more durable for you.
