Need advice on bl motor for E-maxx - 03.19.2007, 11:26 AM

I recently broke my EVX, and am building a replacement system for my E.
For ESC, I am thinking Mamba Max or Warrior 120/20.

Not looking for high speeds, even 30mph is much where I drive my car.
Wich motor would bring me the best runtime whit desent torque (better than stock), 7/8/9 XL or 7/8/9 L?

I'll be using 12 and later 14 cell packs and gear it to go approx 25mph (give or take couple of mph). IB4200, GP and Sanyo cells.
Runtime is the most important factor and better torque than stock.

Thanks in advance.

Higher winds will give longer runtimes than lower winds at the same voltage, gearing, etc.

If you want only 25-30mph, the 9xl on 14 cells should do nicely runtime-wise and still have loads of torque. If you want a little more speed, you can gear a tad higher.

14 cells should be ok on the Mamba Max, but you may want a fan to cool it depending on how hot it gets.

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to the forums!

I would suggest a 9xl for your purposes with a mamba max controller coupled with a UBEC. I would think that you would get anywhere from 20-25min. of runtime on 12-14 cells with 30+mph speeds. (these #'s are rough guesses) Have you done any drive train upgrades? You really need cvd's, better diffs and a stronger slipper clutch to handle the power. The stock diffs might survive for a couple battery packs but the slipper and drive shafts would surely be first to go along with the stock plastic wheel hex's.

All the upgrades can be found in the rc-monster.com store. (If you need links to the parts, I or some one else can give them to you.)

Hope this helps and welcome to the forums!

Bye:018:

I have mip centers, 3.3 diffs with big gear and pinion shimmed. Drive shafts are in shopping list, as well as hexes.

So Mamba would be better? Even if I got them for the same price? Mamba shipped from here would make same amount as getting used 120/20 for a guy I know... But new is new, I was leaning towards mamba anyway.

And thanks, seems like a great place, it's been wery helpfull already!!!:027:

The mamba is one SMOOTH controller for sure! and it's nice and small.. Programmable thru USB!

Welcome to the forum.

Did you read the sticky i wrote in the brushless section? It might give you an insight on what batteries/setup to choose.

I'm wondering if you shouldn't even go with a higher wind motor than a 9XL if you only want to 25 mph. I would think a 9XL would put you at mid to hi 30s properly geared. Instead of severly undergearing, it maybe better go go a higher wind....:032:

Either way it should be a peice of cake for the MMax.

Oh, and with the MMax you get a very nice 1 yr warr. If you do manage to break it, its only $50 to repair, no ?'s asked. Lead time is ~2wks as well and is in US, so a very big plus (unless you are in Ger.)

So you think maybe better to get 10xl or higher? Would that give even more runtime?

I read the stickys and used BrianG's speed calculator. With stock gearing and 9xl I would get the same amount of speed as stock, appox 22mph, and a bit more when going to 14 cells.

How high could it be geared whitout losing too much runtime? I need to order everything I need at the same time, it takes weeks to get anything to where I live.

And I just realised I maybe should have posted this to "pre sales" section:007:

Stuff is now ordered, Mamba Max with 10XL motor, steel idler and pinion, ubec and some misc. bits and pieces.
Only the application chaged, sold my Maxx and got an Revo 3.3 roller.
Updates in Revo section when all the stuff arrives, might take a week or two...
Is FM radio better over AM in BL setups?
