Talking My CRT.5 conversion - 04.14.2007, 07:57 PM

Well I see there is a couple of CRT.5 conversion projects going on here this is what I have came up with. I wanted a car to run the Mamba max motors I have and once I saw the CRT.5 I new it would be perfect with 1/8th scale diff gears and suspension design in a 1/12th scale car it should be a great platform for brushless motors. :)

I have a 5700kv Mamba and decided to go with a 3s 4000hv Maxamps lipo pack to keep the weight down looking at the numbers 50-60mph should be posible and the weight is right at 4lbs.

I went with the Kyosho 46t spur to keep the pinions reliable I stole some parts off my full size CRT the rear aluminum diff mount and drive cup and pin for the diff gear along with the front center shaft off my HPI savage. I also moved the center diff over to the right side of the chassis to get the battery closer to the centerline and also allow more room for a 4-5s pack later.:)

How did you fit the kyosho spur gear on there?

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

The Kyosho spur bolts right up to the CRT.5 diff the only problem is the bearings. Check out RICEMANS post in the brushless section for the details on how to install the Kyosho spur to the CRT.5 diff. Here is a pic of the parts side by side you can see the diference in bearing sizes.

I'm working on the ESC mount now it's going to end up just above the motor in the center of the chassis. :)

IT'S ALIVE

I just got it done to late to drive it but everything works. :018:

I used the ESC off my CRT so the UBEC was wired in so I decided to leave it makes it easier if I want to play with a 4s lipo later and I like the extra voltage to the servo.

Anyone thinking about this conversion you can probably use the RC Monster motor mount for the Jammin buggy to convert it with a couple of washers under the front diff mount to level out the center diff it will make it alot easier to get the motor mounted up. :)

Thanks this thing is a rocket on 3s I had a chance to run a few packs today and play around with the ESC to get the power to the ground. Temps were right around 140deg in the motor and ESC the battery started to get warm also whitch was strange? It got up to about 120deg when I was running in the grass to see how everything would do with a load.

I made my own mount but used a jammin buggy aluminum center diff mount so with Mikes Jammin buggy mount I think the conversion will be alot easier to do with the Kyosho spur. :)
