beating nitro.. again :) -
04.15.2007, 12:13 AM
Can't find the thread about the bl v nitro....
We had a small turnout for the first race of the season here (racing really starts here in May but some of us wanted to do an early race....)
I won both 1/8 buggy and truggy... only 7 entries in each. But brushless won both.... I even beat my own nitro 8ightT that a buddy raced. So I got first and second, lol.... he's the one who beat me at last years end of season trophy race.

BrianG got some track time today too.... but the rough track had him not too sure about racing today. It wasn't an easy track to deal with.... very tacky and rutted from the rain/snow a couple days ago. So traction rolls/flips happened quite a bit.
Brian... the track did come around later in the day and wasn't as bad. Still bumpey though.
Next week will be a fresh rebuild......
Good to have you out running btw... did your boy have fun?

GD, congrats!!! What setups did you run? Did you stick with the MM/Neu combos? Do you have the cogging issues worked out? Really good going. I'm still getting my stuff together, but will start racing regularly this summer.
I am meeting with some resistance though. The majority of the guys at my track said that they would be glad to have me race against them with my brushless stuff. They're interested how they will fare in our 30 minute mains, but some are rather resistant (perhaps afraid), after having seen my equipment run in practice/bashing.

Congrats on the wins GD! But you knew you were going to win. ;)
Yeah, I had a heck of a time at first (as you know as you flipped my buggy over for me a number of times, lol). And then I all but knocked his water bucket over coming in from a jump. Argg. It was the first time running it on the track (not counting the 5 minutes I ran last week before snapping the shock tower). I was slowly doing better as the track got some use but then my batts died. I got a solid 40 minutes on the 8Ah cells though - and that's using the Neu 2d geared 46/16! Motor/ESC/battery temps at the end were very respectable; hand-touch estimate at 120*F give or take. The Hyper 8 was wayyy too fast though - I ended up turning the throttle EPA down to about 60%.
I ran the Revo too, which seemed more fun. I like power sliding through the corners - which WAS NOT working with the Hyper 8, lol.
My son did have a little fun running his Stampede (stock-ish motor with some LRP ESC), but it was his first time on a track of any kind. He got tired of running pretty quick (only one pack of GP3300's) and then got very bored and complained, which is why we left. If I was alone, I probably would have recharged my cells and tried racing anyway (although I know I'd be dead last - maybe even still there finishing up :)).
Props to you for being the only person out there I saw making the track driveable. I don't know how much time you spent between sumping the standing water off the day before and then conditioning it today, but it was a LOT better than it was!

I know he said he was running his Quark in one of his vehicles and said it was much smoother. I don't know which one though, or if he raced with it.

Congrats GD!! Glass the brushless rc's came out on top... kind of expected it, lol.
BrianG - I'm glad you got so much run tie out of the 8000 batteries. I want as much run time as possible with my buggy. And since it is for bashing, I may get even more, which is just awesome.

I get that all the time last year, this year i got about three times more power this year so there will be more of it. I am adding a brushless truggy (LSP) and got a few guys rolling their eyes on that. I alomst forgot, the track is allowing lipo's now so will have the power this year. Too bad it rained today and ruined the first race of the year
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Thanks guys... like I said.. the fast guys were not there :) But really the buggy was working good enough that I would have been right there with my fast buddies anyway, lol
I may gear back down a little so it's not so obvious that I have the fastest car but man that was fun racing like that... I coudl pull anyone on any part of hte track hee hee.
BG... that sounds like my kids... they get bored usually in one battery pack. My kids came by after the races and ran on the track for a few minutes.
It is much easier to race without having to entertain and keep an eye on youngsters.... someday they will be old enough to race themselves and not have to babysat too.
You could have run one of my batteries too... I was so busy I didn't see you leave. I was the track crew this week, lol... I'm pretty tired now after three days of walking in mud and shoveling dirt but that's ok. I don't do it all the time.

Oh... here's the setups:
buggy... same as I have been running... MM and Neu 1900kv on 4s (maxamps 5000 and kokam 4800) but this time I ran 18/46 instead of the 14-16/46 I usually run. It was too hectic again to get much noted about temps etc.. but I didn't have any problems.
truggy... Jammin CRT with Neu 1515 1700kv and 125B on 4s.... geared more conservative (almost too slow) I think 12/49? I'll have to check. I think it just barely get to 30mph. But it has a ton of accleration and still good speed for a small track... just not "wow!!" speed.
I ran this time with the maxamps 6000mah packs in the CRT and it ran great. The 6000s don't have the same raw power on tap as the 12000 packs I'm sure.. but the light weight must have helped because it felt like it had plenty of rip.... poor tires. :)

Nice win...
How long were your qualifier rounds and how long was the main race?

7 min quals and we only ran 7 min main due to low #'s of available pit men and marshals... but a longer main would only mean more laps down for the second place car, lol...
I did run a 30 min main a few weeks ago and finished that without any trouble. I'm looking forward to some longer mains when the race season really kicks off in a couple weeks.

Wow, 30 mins...on what capacity battery?
This year I'll be venturing out of my 5 min bubble and I seemed to always have heat problems...wondering if you are doing anything special to keep it all cool...
Thanks,
DM

Neu motors and conservative kv.... nothing special other than that.
I ran an 8000 pack for the 30 min main... but at that track I maight have made it on a 5000 pack.... maybe.
