So far as I know, thats about the worst place you put put the rx, apart from next to the esc- massive amounts of rf and em interference coming from the motor and motor power wires.

aww i wanted to see it running! anyways, I think it's a little risky with the soft cased lipo so close to the spurgear, even with those posts there. one nasty crash and it might just get chewed to bits(followed immediatly by fire)

Batteries are charging now, will have a video posted in a couple of hours.

Yeah, I might get a bike inner tube and put them in that, saw someone else here on RCM doing that with good results. And actually the pictures make them seem closer to the spur gear than they really are, there is about 3/16'' between the LiPo and the spur, maybe a bit more.

Not planning on making battery trays, but if I do decide I need them, I will go with these - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LX2778&P=7

I'm not sure I'd trust electrical tape to hold your $200 pair of lipos...

Heh, I had some of those battery trays once on my TXT-1. What you could do is have a piece of plastic/ alloy in place of the posts (on edge), with a channel for the spur gear if some clearance is required on the insides.

Good idea! I may have to try something like that. Adding to your idea, maybe bolt a small piece of angle aluminum to those posts so it covers them, providing a flat place for the Li-Po's to rest against rather than those posts, and protect them from the spur better than the posts alone.

To Ian - it actually holds really good, they hardly move at all.

Just got some video of it doing some speed runs and bashing, and my front diff stripped. Seems like it only breaks when its being filmed...

It's uploading now, have to edit it, will be posted in a couple hours.

Cool video. I can hear you:
"Ok, my front diff is gone. I know! I'll just drive in reverse!"

That's what you call "driving 'Monster Jam' Style," since they usually keep driving when something breaks!
