I think so...IMO you need the added torque of the 1515, I have never tried it, but if you do it and you find it is under powered than you will have to sell it and may lose money in the process. I guess it depends what level of performance you are ok with...

I run a 2000kv aveox motor that should be almost identical to a 1512 neu. My revo has the full tekno kit and I run 5s lipo. Gearing is 15/40, and I have the wide ratio gearset. Truck does almost 45mph, and has tons of power. I do have 2 clip on heatsinks, and temps are fine.

If you will lock it in second, and use motor brake the 1515 will be needed. With the 2 speed and gearing for around 40mph and mech brakes a 1512 (1800-2000kv ) on 5-6s should be fine. For 4s running you will need some really good lipos, and lower gearing with the 3000kv motor.

I wouldnt consider TrueRc packs GOOD cells they are ok, they are 10c packs good for the money, I consider any Enerland based cell to be good, I have heard Zippy cells are great for the money the same price as TrueRc, just below the Enerlands..you might be disappointed with the starting performance with the 1512 motor...the deal you are getting on this motor I wouldnt pay more than $125 for it

its not that much dollar wise $10-15, and with a NEU you wont need the extra cooling the finned can gives, I have a smooth can , and I live in Arizona where the temps will be at least 100 degs for about 4 months a year...thats a major reason I am going with the Neu

And for the times that you want things to be out of control you could go with a 5s pack but that would require a different ESC. DickyT has a thread where he had a 5s for his 1515/1y Revo and he thought it was too much power
