Well, I've only been into the BL scene since around '05 so you actually have much more experience than I, but how long does it take to learn common sense?
Im am debating on if I should get this esc for my 1/5 seeing that its meant for boats and that Ill be maxing out its voltage capabilities. Its meant for 32cells nimh/nicd which is a total voltage of 38.4v. I will be running three 12v 5000mah PB batts in series to make a 5000mah 36v setup. Also it says the esc does 90a continious. Is this enough or should I be looking for more capable esc's? This is the highest amp HV brushed esc I can find so... All help is appreciated.
I wouldn't trust something that was made to be water cooled to power something that big and heavy reliably. I've heard of people running Hydras in E-Revos and such and they say they work well without replacing the cooler but I am personally very skeptical of using a Boat ESC in a car/truck/buggy/etc.
I would check this out and E-Mail CC and ask their opinion on it. I can pretty much guarantee that they will not recommend running a boat ESC in a Baja 5B though. They will be able to give you some good advice about your setup and point you in the direction of a good ESC for it.
All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.
Funny thing I forgot to tell you guys. I should be fine for another 3 months or so with any heat issues. Its been below 20 degrees for the last month and it never exceeds that until around early march here. I will then be in the process of water cooling the esc with a radiator mounted behind the front bumper, "new" nitro tank filled with water, and a small pump. Really gets technical but it should work.

With your reservoir, pump, radiator, etc. wouldn't it be lighter and easier to just get an air-cooled ESC?

Or void the warranty by bonding heatsink fins to the tubes sides...
I wonder if Castle would customize one for you with fins instead of tubes?
Personally, any exostic cooling method just increases weight and things to go wrong...
I personally am not worried about weight. It will weigh 32.8lbs loaded w/o the esc, tank, small radiator, pump etc... As long as it stays under 35lbs im fine with it.
