Ground down in diameter or thickness?

Putting that case on later is no big deal, just email Mike and see if he can backorder it. Use the half of the stock case (many use that) and pick up either the 3996X steel gear or the ones I listed (I would go with the 3996X personally) and you can have that thing together soon.

I don't own a 3906 transmission so I have to buy something either way. I was thinking of going on ebay and buying one and then worry about the aluminum half case later. But maybe if I emailed Mike with a wish list (half case, slipper clutch etc) maybe he would be able to sort me out?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Traxxas-E-Maxx-G...3A2%7C294%3A50

Here is the stock case, the only issue with buying a whole 3906 tranny on ebay is you don't know what the internals look like and they usually go for around $30-40 on there so there is no big savings. Are you planning on doing the Revo slipper/input shaft in this tranny? If so then there is even more reason not to buy a whole setup.

You figure the only pieces you will use from a stock tranny (prices are approx):
1) output shaft $10
2) case $10
3) 2nd gear $5
4) Motor mount $15

So why buy an unknown used one (unless you can get it for $20-25 shipped when you can have all NEW parts for a little more?

Thickness. If you buy one you will notice a "lip" and that is what I ground it down to but after doing that I see I could have taken less off. I just had matched it to the stock thickness without a prior test fit so it looks as though it can be run a little thicker.
