Red face Building a G3R need some help! - 02.06.2009, 03:02 PM

Hi guys, got a few quick questions I am hoping one of the gurus here can help me out with. I am in the process of building a G3R and am seriously confused when it comes to the transmission.

At first I thought that I would be able to simply drop in the e-revo transmission but it is my understanding that is not the case and modification is required. At least that's what I've been able to glean from these forums. I also sent an email to Monster Mike and he confirmed that I should use the E-maxx setup. And that if I use the G1 single speed kit I only need half the transmission case.

So far I have bought the G1 single speed kit and now I want the FLM aluminum transmission case. First question: Is it possible to order only half of a transmission case? (Not a big deal if that's not possible) Last question: Can anyone tell me or provide me a list of what internal gears/parts I need to order to complete the transmission?

You assistance is greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Yes you need an old emaxx transmission.

You can try contacting Jamie at FLM on the case but not seen it as a specific item...

Interal gears depend up on setup - Some mod a revo input shaft such that you can use a revo slipper.

The rcm hardended gear is worthwhile....

The rest of the part no's you can get from the castle exploded diag...

BUT you might want to wait for the slipper kit

I'm thinking I'll mod the Revo input shaft as I have no idea when the slipper kit will be available. Probably around the same time as the new V3 Diffs!

I have gone to the Traxxas site and have looked at the exploded diagrams for the old E-Max transmission but I am having a hell of a time determining which parts I need as I am thinking that with only half the case there must be some of these parts that I don't require? Or am i just ?

You'll need the following:

I'm might be missing some thing like the reverse gears and shifting mechanism. The best thing to do is just go to ebay and buy a used 3906 emaxx tranny, steel idler gears(UE have them in stock) and just remove the first and reverse gears.

Castle Neu 1520 on 6S LiPo Powered Gmaxx (Nitro Killer)
Predator with OS .21TM
Supermaxx with Mach .26
Revo with OS .18TZ
Kyosho ST-RR Conversion
Ofna CR with Tekin ESC/Motor (2)

First off I would like to say thanks for taking the time to help a newby out. It is very much appreciated! Can anyone tell me if I will still have reverse in this single speed transmission setup? From what George16 posted it sounds like I will not?

Oh yes - emax trans is locked so reverse is no issue - There are no reverse gears...

1) There are no such things as reverse gears on an Emaxx

2) Yes you will have reverse

Electric vehicles dont have the need for a seperate reverse set of gears, as the electric motors can spin forwards and backwards, unlike an evil nitro engine. The tranny on the erevo is the same as the emaxx 3905, and it isnt all that different to the old 3906 tranny really, just a bit beefed up and a slightly different shape- the exploded views make it simpler to understand.

Hi Neil! Hope all is well in Limeyland! Did you get burried in all that snow? :P

So, could I take the 3905/e-revo and use the G1 conversion kit on it? Or, do I have to use the 3906? I am also assuming that the bolt pattern is different on the new transmission right? I did see a post showing someone who did manage to mount an E-Revo transmission but had to drill and tap new holes........ Just don't want to screw up and order the wrong parts!

I like the G1 Conversion cause it frees up space on the G3R and I'm thinking that may be a good place to mount the MMM.

Ok, maybe I can help a little. The 3996X steel idler gear will work in a single speed setup and yes for a stock 3906 setup they need to be ground down some (really not a huge deal). I am using one right now in a single speed setup (albeit not the G1 but a "custom" job).

Another thought may be these aluminum ones on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=250329393785

As for the FLM half case, they were made and here is what I see in the store here:

CNC Machined E-Maxx Transmission Half-Case

This is the CNC machined E-Maxx transmission half-case from FastLane. It's made to house the G-Maxx single-speed conversion for the E-Maxx transmission.
Price: $40.00
