I would 2nd just going for a MMM. By the time you buy a fan and bec and all that other stuff you end up at about the same price but a less capable unit.
A combo would be great if you can find it, tho I prefer to use higher voltage to keep the temps down. I can get my 1700kv 2.5D on 5S upto 160 after enough hard running, and a 4S/2200kv unit will heat up even faster.
Lastly, I would stick to RCM pinions. I run 16/48.
The HST is a great truck either way, turns awesome and is very affordable.
I have been doing a bit of research lately and found the KD36 series on Hobbycity.com. Will this motor be any good in the ST until i can afford a Medusa?
Could someone who runs this motor or knows something about them chime in and tell me a bit about them?
That's basically a Feigao 9XL but not built as well. I've got some HobbyCity motors and they do work but they run hot and nowhere near the power of a Medusa or a Neu. IMO you're best off saving the cost of the motor as well as shipping until you can get the real deal.
All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.
Those are the cheapest motors I know of that will work. The Velineon geared for anything more than 20 MPH or so will definitely cook. One of those with an RC-M heatsink clamp will keep the endbells on and it'll give you a few more minutes of run time before you have to let it cool but it is not a long-term investment.
