Finally got a bit of time up my sleeve, so got started with the skid for the velcro straps for the lipos, and got the supports for the rear of the lipos made and mounted aswell... gotta love plastic chopping boards and the guy that invented the dremel hehehe
I've also got the motor mount installed and ready to go - i should have the rx8 combo on monday, and should be good to go then =)
Here's the skid plate shaped and ready to have holes drilled - i'm not gonna be a perfectionist about it - its a bit awkward/messy working in a small 1mtr x 2mtr area on the living room floor in a 1 bdrm aprtmnt -lol-
You can see i have made a channel for the velcro straps, so that the skid sits a little more flush on the chassis, and i can remove the straps and replace them if necessary without having to remove the skid =)
Here are the straps exposed...
I decided to only use 3 screws to mount it, as...
a) i was lazy...
b) it was very secure with only the 2 bottom screws, and i could surprisingly barely lift it, even prying it with a flat blade screwdriver!
and c) i was lazy -lol-
For the bottom 2 screws, I've used the same nut and position that the mud guards are mounted with, but used longer screws... i had to drill a hole in the chassis for the center screw (that is located further toward the front, in the middle of the skid) - just have a nut on the other side slightly offset underneath the rear driveshaft
Here's the small block i cut out of the plastic chopping board too, to use as supports for the back end of the lipos - they were not very safe to be left with the button head of the lower hingepin as the only rear support for them...
I sorta cut out the shape of the lower brace to conform, as the chopping board i had was a little thick to fit the lipos aswell...
I countersunk the chopping board so the button head hinge pin wasn't poking out, and that the chopping board was fluch with the lipos =)
Lipos in place...
