No Switch - 03.14.2014, 09:43 PM

Anybody else notice this thing doesn't come with a switch? The quick start tells you to callibrate to your radio by holding full throttle and plugging in a battery. I could do that if I was a Motie (Niven/Pournelle: Mote in God's Eye: they have 3 hands).

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know lots of guys remove the switches. I prefer to replace them with reliable ones.

I bought this combo . Its in my slash 4x4 geared at 20/34 . Power is there in spades. I have to admit that I am not used to having a water proof esc thats not 3s I owned the first 2200 and over geared this one in a similar way. The power difference is indeterminable by me at least . The esc is solid as a rock. I have tried to kill it on 4s running half throttle for 5 minutes straight. It did nothing but bring this motor to slightly warm to touch "34" c . Start up showed no cogging even when moving at a crawl. The esc didn't show any signs of stress. I would try to do 6s but i have not been able to tune the suspension properly on 4s and going what seems to be ungodly quick . The motor is louder. I can't believe this combo is so cheap. I wanna see people argue that getting the hobbywing system would make any sense at all now .

Cheers Patrick !

I was worried that Castle just gonna stiff the guys that like to push the limit without having to sell a kidney.

Thanks for the kind words. We worked very hard on this system -- we really wanted an affordable 1/8th scale system, and think it was time we brought one to market.

Picked one of the escs off ebay and the build quality is very good. Will be running it in a maxx with an axi outrunner on 5s. Will report back when I get some wheel time.

Ok, so I am wondering what the difference is between this Sidewinder 8th esc and the mamba max pro.

The Pro has an adjustable BEC, the 8th is fixed. 4.5amp on the 8th, anyone know the amp rating on the pro?

The pro can be used with a sensored motor, the 8th is sensorless only.

Both are offered as a combo with a similar size 4 pole motor, 1415 for the pro and the 1515B for the 8th. The 1415 has a slightly higher kv at 2400 vs the 1515B at 2200kv.

The Sct Pro system is suggest to run 4s max with the 1415 2400kv motor, and the vehicle weight suggestions are lower than the 8th/1515B combo. 6.5 lbs for the Sct Pro and 11lbs for the 8th 1515B.

Not sure what that indicates for current handling. A lighter vehicle on 4s may draw close to what the heavier vehicle on 6s does... Likely the 6s heavier vehicle will be a monster truck or truggy and both have heavier wheels and tires so that will up the current draw. A SCT truck does not have very heavy wheels/tires.

I have not found any specs on the current handling abilities of either, but I suspect the 8th will handle more than the Pro. Given the selection of 14 series motors none look to be suitable to use more than 4s (maybe 5s on the 1415?) so the 6s capability of the Pro is not generally going to be used. The 8th is spec-ed to run 6s with the 1515B motor so it must be pretty close the MMM.

My conclusion is that the Pro system would likely be a better choice for 4s use in a SCT 4wd truck than the Sct pro, and cheaper. The sct pro really looks to be a 3s setup that can be used on 4s with careful gearing selection.

I use the MMP on 6s in all of my 1/8 buggies...

And in my 1/10 2wd SCT
and in my 1/10 4x4 buggy
and in my 1/10 2wd buggy
and in my 1/10 ST

But not in my 17.5 buggy, or 21.5 onroad stuff. The MMP is much slower than 'other' brands

I wonder why the mmp is slower? Given the description of how it runs sensored to start then swaps to sensorless it should be better? Maybe a tuning issue?

He may be comparing sensor only "boosted" modes (like our CHEAT mode). We haven't done much recently with those modes, considering they are illegal for racing, and bad for motors. Too easy to damage a motor just to make it a little faster.

Sensored only mode. No cheat.

The MMP doesn't work at all with high static timing 21.5 motors, anything over ~50* and it just stutters. I run 70-80* in my m06.

In a 17.5 class it's noticeably slower than some of the other options...

A tekin spec is easily 2s/lap faster on a 20s/lap track in a 21.5 TC.

How's the MMP^2 coming along?
