My final testing on the 9XL/Mamba Max combo -

I have been running this setup for a month and am very impressed. I have run it through as much hard work as i could think of and it never shutdown or hiccuped . Today i was running it with an 18/51, on 4s lipo, with an Emaxx transmission/ half trans. conversion, 40 series bowtie/wabash combo. the only cogging i saw was with the 18 tooth pinion and it was slight couldn't get the mamba to stop but stripped a ring gear trying. all i can say is that with all the speed runs, hard pavement running, and start and stop, not to mention a lot of doughnuts (mmmm) the only thing i damaged was a stock ring gear.
I forgot to mention that this setup oversteps the recomendations of castle creations and might void the warranty, I have had no troubles, but needed to mention it
If you want to try it, I say its a great combo, so long as you stay with 16 or below tooth pinion (mod-1), its a good racing setup for short to medium tracks (speeds in the mid to upper 20's with 4s lipo's or 12 to 14 cells) I have yet to fully drain the batteries (8000 mah maxamps lipo) and have run over 20 minutes so far at one time. If you want MT power for the price of the mamba max system (212 for the MM combo, MM esc and 9XLis about 220) you need to look into this.
you could also use a 7XL and 8XL but you may get more heat and less runtime. you also need a UBEC for power to the reciever and servo, I have run another MM with a 5700 motor on 3s and internal bec with no problems, but it would cut out on 12 cells, so UBEC is a must for this setup.
thanks for reading and hope it helps, in making a decision. If you got questions Just ask.
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise
