Fans on Esc's

I used the novak fan and mount for some of mine. It works nicely off
the ubec. I can add a plug for easy maintance to.

This fan takes 2 watts of input power but it moves 8.3 CFM. Is the input power to much in your opinion ?. It will diffenetly keep the ESC cool.

0.6A is quite a bit for a small fan and would just take away from whatever current your servos need. And, if you run it at 6v, it will pull even more current. It looks like it moves a lot of air, but that's not necessarily what you want. There is a point where faster and faster airflow provides diminishing returns. A regular fan will do the job just fine. Sometimes it's a matter of just getting any kind of localized airflow. No need for a hurricane!

Something else about fans most people don't think of: They may be high air flow, but have little air pressure. This means that you need some airspace between the fan and the item being cooled for best operation.

Yeah, I had an 80mm Delta high output fan for my computer CPU. The thing is about 1.5" thick and blows some serious air (enough to propel itself around if on a table), but the noise was crazy. Sounded like a vacuum cleaner in my computer! I got tired of the noise so switched to a much tamer fan and the CPU temps only went up a degree or two.

I remember those Deltas back in the OC day. :)


Edit: that fan's ok, but I would run a 40mm on 12V optimally, else get a 30mm 5V fan. That should be good enough. 40mm fans are pretty big, and can be a pain to place sometimes.

That's not too bad at all, its only 0.6W/ 0.12A. Its shouldn't be a prob at all for a decent UBEC.

The fan was a few dollars more but the first place has a $25.00 minimum order.

That one looks more reasonable. :) 0.12A is not bad at all for that size fan and rpm and shouldn't cause the BEC any troubles. You even get a rpm-sensing wire. :)

Im using a reciver pack so my bec wont be affected at all.
