The Neu motors are more efficient than the feigao/wanderer/nemesis motors. Since you've got a controller that is capable or running a Neu i would jump that opportunity.

The ebay idea is neat too, you can always decide what to do. If you depend on a setup, and can't have a thermal shutdown (in races) get a neu.

For a 5S setup i would take a 10XL, and if you need speed, get a 9XL and GOOD lipo's. (batteries are usually the limiting factor for the power a setup can deliver.)

Biting bullets was a figure of speech (needs salt), but serum is right if you can swing it go with the neu first. the 1515/2.5 is equivilent to a 9xl in kv, I radared mine in a G2R revo with a Emaxx tranny in 2nd gear with 5s lipo and 20/51 gearing at 34 MPH

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

4 polers - 06.23.2007, 06:47 PM

is the neu more efficient because of the four pole setup or are they just more efficient motors? I am sick of doing things twice so i'll probably start with the neu, crazyjr and serum have done the learning the hard way for me, so now the question is: WHICH NEU MOTOR DO I RUN ON 5S LIPO IN A HALF ALUMINUM E-MAXX, MORE CONCERNED WITH POWER AND RUNTIME THAN SPEED

Thanks man! Yeah I made the chassis myself, and I've recieved many compliments about the mid-motor as well. When do we get a pic of your truck, or do you have them somewhere already?

Hey crazyjr are using stock revo diff gears or 1/8th gears (ratio wise), because if there stock then you've got the same ratio as me with the same motor and voltage, and I would have thought my setup would be at least 40mph, I did have a fair bit of tire ballooning though.

I agree with serum and crazyjr about getting the neu instead of a feigao.
When I was looking for a brushless setup for my maxx I was thinking about the neu, but decided to go with a feigao, because of the price.
After I got sick of watching motor temps and burnt out 2 quarks I decided to get a neu. Now nothing gets hot, it has more torque and I can play around a lot more with the gearing without up setting anything. Runtime is a bit better as well.
I don't know about running the 1515 1y (2200kv) on 5s. I think it could definitely do it, but if you want runtime and reliability and aren't worried about just doing speed runs (not that the 1515 2.5d doesn't have good speed), then I would stick to the 1700kv motor for 5s and the 2200kv motor if you use 4s. Someone who has used the 1y on 5s can probably give a better answer though.

I don't think the neu motors are more efficient just because they're 4 pole since the lenher's are very close in efficiency and they are only 2 pole.

1/8 diffs, I crushed upgraded (integy cups and cases) with quark and 9XL on 5s. The 9XL/MM/5s i was runing with stock diffs was 37mph, according to BrianG's calculator i should be runing 37mph, with 3.7 set as v per cell and no growth selected

That makes sense then. Stock dffs add about nearly 6 mph over 1/8th in the calculator and I had some tyre ballooning.

thanks patrick - 06.23.2007, 11:41 PM

if the neu motors are easier on the controller then it is a no brainer, i'm glad I decided to monitor this thread lots of good advice, truck is in parts now build pics will come, anybody else have problems with maximizer ultra diffs???? mine continually break loose i'm thinking jb weld

I read some where that the quark likes the neu's, because of something to do with timing, but I don't think the difference I saw could be that big if it was just timing and since the batteries weren't as hot as well, I don't think it draws as much current.

Do you mean the crown gear screws come loose on the diffs? My FLM cups have done that twice now.

I did run my G2R Revo on a Quark and NEU 1515 1Y on 4s Lipo set up and it did run great, I used it for racing. Geared 16/51,no problems with thermal shut down until the temps here in Indiana got hot, then I started to have thermal shutdowns, I can easily avoid the thermal issues by lowering my gearing but you have to buy the bigger ofna spur gear cuz you can only use 16 tooth as the lowest pinion due to the size of the motor. Then i switched to my hacker 9XL which is similar to NEU 1515 2.5d and had no heat problems at all with same gearing, With NEU 1515 2.5 d will probably run cooler than my Hacker 9XL. You may go away on NEU 1515 1 y if use for bashing only on 5s LIPO (It will be ballistic )and get the bigger ofna spur gear (email MIke) to gear down accordingly. But better get the NEU 1515 2.5d if it is in stock for it will have no heat problems

Brushless Jammin Truggy on NEU 1515 2.5 D on Monster mamba max with maxamps 5000mah 6s Lipo
Gorillamaxx Revo CF version on Mamba maxx ESC with NEU 1515 1Y on Maxamps 4s 8000mah Lipo

I love the knowledge! Patrick- i have the maximizer "ultra" diffs, with the springs and plates for internals instead of spider gears, basically a slipper setup, and no matter how many plates i stuff in there they eventually slip and i go nowhere Luvsrc- all my maxxes run monster gt spur gears, they slip right on and are mod 1 pitch and stand up to the biggest nitro's i can throw at 'em

Good point; are you using 6 or 12 friction pegs? and are they durable? what is the diameter of these pegs?
