That is some hard running sometime. I have an oval in the back yard we race around like nascar. Two long straights with swooping corners. I have a lot of room so my truck gets run wide open a lot. IF you was to go out and run a truck like some other people talk could get more. 7 8 and 9 xl are all great motor. I just like the smoothness of the 9 better than 7. It will go slow enough to count the tread.

Well, to get 15 minutes of runtime on 18 cells... you'd only be running the motor at 13.5Amps or lower.... That's around 300 Watts.... It is possible... Know what I mean... 300 Watts is probably enough for just to have fun with.. but if you're pumping out 100Amps(2100 Wats) to the motor consistantly, it's only goin' to last like 2 minutes.... But the motor doesn't usually use up that kind of amps continuously.... Unless, you're always giving it a heavey load like on an incline, in bushes, or constantly accellerating hard... :) This is what I think.. I don't know how true it is.. .:)

from what I have tried. yes it seems to be less cogging. Difference in timing makes a difference in cogging as well.

I like the idea of smoother and more torque with the 9xl, but I am wondering if I will be giving it enough cells to be happy? (when it is happy, it would make me happy :) ) Maybe I just need to breakdown, buy the 6 cell sticks, and assemble them as 7 or 8 cell packs.

I am not totally sure what you are looking for. The 7xl does good. the 9xl does good. I can not speak for the 8xl. 12 cells kept motor cool running with enough power to tote the front wheels. 14 pound gmaxx with double extensions. My truck is 21.5inches bumper to bumper. speed runs 7xl crawling 9xl. I wish I had an 8xl to test for you. For that matter I would like to test a 10 xl out for me. lol Hope this helps. Sorry if any confusion. I think you will be happy with any of the about picks. Power wise the 7xl put out more power than 2 hvmaxx systems. So does 9xl.

So for all around stuff (general bashing / crawling / with some high speed runs through fields/parking lots every once in awhile), maybe the 9xl would be better? Would you still agree to that last statement if it was only being run on 12-14 cells?

So basicly what your saying is if you don't go full pelt all the time it lasts upto 15minutes? So whats the point of having the extra 2 cells? Just to have the power ready when you want it? :D

Well dafni got 30 minutes on the 7xl (dont know cell count) and country got 30 minutes on the 9xl (I beleive 18 cells).

So yes extra voltage means the power is there. And since there is MORE power, you wont be using the MAX power it has very often, where as if you had fewer cells, it would take a lot more throttle to get the same acceleration you want.

^ that is my take on it anyway, any of our resident BL experts can clear this up if I am wrong!

I think the difference in runtime is play area. I have alot of open area around me. alot of speed. It is not unusaul for me to get me truck to full speed every time I pull the trigger. The 9xl is the longest I have gotten out of a set of batteries. The only other thing close is the 14L I had. It was about the same. Just like the power of the 9xl better. 12-14 cells will flip my truck. I have to have it on grass to get maximum traction. It just spins on concrete and such. I think you will be happy with all of the above. I just putting options out there. If all else fail split the difference with a 8xl. I have not tried one so. I will curious to what you get as well.

Right now I am leaning toward the 8xl, as it is between the 7/9 (im good at this math thing!) I figure this way I should have a pretty smooth motor.

Country, what made you decide on the 9xl after trying the other motors? I am about to the point of buying all 3 and selling the two I dont want! This is pretty ridiculous trying to pick a darn motor! At least this way ^^ I could give advice to others that are in the same pickle I am. (or maybe I am the only insane person in here that spends 3 weeks deciding on a motor!?!)

No you not insane. Just trying to find the right one. I don't know exactly why. I tried the 7xl first. I messed my motor up in high speed crash. MIP I got the 14 L I like the run time of that. It did a lot better than my brother 8l as far as run time and smooth ness. I figured the xl version would do the same. I was right. I get another controller. I may try 20 -24 cells on my 9xl. I want to see what it has got. I sorry if I confused you. I think you will be happy with any of the three though.

I was kind of hoping the 8xl had a lower cell limit. Looks like 7xl is 16, 8xl and 9xl are 18 cells? I wish the 8xl had a 16 limit too, because that would mean I could get more power from my 12-14 cells.

Personally, I don't think the HV-Maxx is even comparable to the XL series.... It's just not powerful enough.... :)
