That rig has been around for years, it's not new. That's why I say all this. If you're a member of Pirate, then you know the saying - search. It's been covered dozens of times and the facts and testimonials are in there. I'm not going to dig through them to try to prove anyone wrong or act big. If you want the info, it's there.

I never said it was a bad idea. I simply reiterated what you will know if you search for the threads on PBB about this contraption. By the way, since you're on PBB, you should also know flex and articulation isn't everything.

Rock crawling is great, don't get me wrong. But the industry is going in a different direction and FAST. You're seeing coilovers and TTB setups all over the place now. A few years ago that was rare and mostly criticized. Then the big names started doing it and now it's everywhere.

Oh, and just because I'm young and just now getting around to my major doesn't mean I don't know how to build or design. I spent the last 4 years active duty USAF, so I didn't get the chance to get my education until now. I was 2W0, AMMO, and now I'm in the WA ANG as a 1C4, waiting for the schoolhouse. If I see you down range or in CONUS, I'll buy you a beer and we can go for hours about this rig.

jerry and george are right, it could be a very capable crawler.

I'm just always right

GTX, your mistake was calling the thing "useless". The logical folks (and very good readers by the way) here took that to mean what you said, not what you later said you intended.
Your exactly correct in that its weight (in its current stage of development)would likely kill it in a competition.
Useless in competition, taken out of context.

Sorry. - 01.06.2010, 10:36 PM

Sorry to hear about your bung Harold. I hope it fits on your R/C well. What a great bunch of guys we have in here. You guys keep me laughing. Thanks for calling Lito it was nice talking with you. Gixer you just came in here on a good day, and posted up a few words that got us all going. Take a Zanex and call us in the morning. Air Force, what were you thinking? Navy all the way, or at least Marine Corp. Any service is something to be proud of. You have to watch your step around here, or you might just step in something not so nice. There are allot of mean old men in here that are looking for something to keep them up at night. You were an easy target today. Usually it is James or Harold, or even me. It's all in good fun. I do hope that we will see and hear more about this articulating crawler rig. I think it is a very cool piece of work that may evoke some serious thoughts and changes in the way things are done right now regardless of what anyone else may think. Have a good day/night gentlemen. I have work to do.

I agree Jerry. I thought the Air Force don't work for a living. I know we do in the Navy hahaha.

Anyway, at least you agreed when I stated how Jeep guys used to criticize the TTB and coilovers because they thought a solid axle setup is the only way to go. I'm still keeping up with the info by reading my 4x4 connection mags every month when I get a chance to seat down since I'm not being a desk like most Air Force guys do . In fact, best time for me to read is while seated on the crapper .

I'll definitely take that beer albeit nan-alcoholic when I go back stateside next year. I'm thinking about retiring next year but we'll see (20 years of service soon).

I don't know Lito? How can you say you work for a living with a job like that? I would stay for the shore duty next tour, but once you reach the 20 year mark it is time to get out and start your next career for a second retirement. My plan is to collect my mil retirement, my State retirement, and SSI at age 67(if there is anything left?) That should equate to about $4K to $5K a month to keep my R/C and woodshop hobbies going. Plus I plan on doing woodworking stuff(lawn furniture) to sell for some mad money. YOu really need to consider working for State after you get out. Otherwise you will miss all of the international traveling. I love it.

I love it how I somehow seem to get into every non-rc discussion...

I like the crazy chain drive beasty! I also watched those Hammer Wacker truck racing vids as well. Looks cool. I like the slower crawling myself, but do like to bash a MT. As far as full size goes, I street race (yes, bugger saftey) and I could not own a dedicated drag car or anything that needs to be trailered. Not that I look down on anyone with a dedicated project, just not my style.

I can see that rig giving a serious rock crawler a run for its money, and possibly making it thru some stuff that nothing else could. Not in a timed event. I would like to drive it, that is for sure!
