can the novak handle it????? - 08.18.2005, 10:31 AM

is the novak super sport strong enough to handle the abuse of a stampede and later posibly a full FLM pede. id be running 6 cell 3200 id get a 7 cell if i needed it. but i keep seeing all these novaks thermaling and glitching so i was wondering. also ill be running masher 2ks what gearing do you think would give me standing start wheelies and good top speed?????? also what are yall setups using the novak system ( tires, gearing, battery?)

i already know all the tanny mods im doing a jay pede tranny conversion (waiting on motor plate and guard to get here)and i have the aluminum idler then from there ill see what else i need as i go along

Have you got the novak allready?

or are you considering it?

It can handle it, but it's not the fastest BL setup money can buy..

I did it in my Pede for a while, then got a Lehner 5300......go sensorless if you're serious about going BL.

Yeah go sensorless unless you already have the Novak.I have one and it's not a bad system at all(it stays very cool but it is a bit glitchy) but if you got say an MGM controller and a feigo or lehner motor you'd get more power and way more versatility if you wanted to try different motors or cell counts later.

The Novak controller and motor are pretty much exclusive to each other and 7 cells is the limit.

I never got mine to run right in my Pede, sucker always overheated and never quite satisfied me. I dropped a Lehner 5300 and Warrior 7018 in though, and man did that truck FLY! The Lehner combo is now in my T2 (Pede's being sold) and the Novak was traded for a insanely hopped up TC3......which I promptly turned around and sold for $220, more than a used SS could ever get!

so would the mgm controller and the feiago 8s be better it is about $40 more than the novak what would yall recomend i dont have much more than 240 to spend on a motor and controller becasue i have to use the rest of my money to upgrade the truck

no i dont have the novak already

and doesnt the sensorless motors have cogging problems say if the truck was rolling backwards slowly and i pinned it would it stop then when i let off and got back on it, it would go OR would iit take off like a brushed motor would

Go Feigao, I've heard they're real good, and you cat do better for the price.

As for cogging, it's not as bad as everyone thinks. I thought my motor would stutter and lag and be jumpy, but neither of my Lehners are that way, especially not the 2800xl in my Ofna 9.5; that one is as smooth as can be and doesn't care if you peg the throttle from a standstill or from halfway. My Lehner 5300 is a bit worse, but I think that's the controller. Anyway, with most sensorless, you won't be able to hit full throttle instantly anyway, but instead by getting the vehicle moving, then roll the throttle to full. It takes more driver finesse, but isn't hard at all, you just gotta learn to do it right.

The mgm/8s combo is fast and reliable. And, you can take off forward while the truck is rolling backwards with no problems. the cogging is not noticeable at all, actually. On 7 cells, it will be a brute for sure, and will rip up the pede tranny if you don't make some mods.

sounds like its the setup then

also i might be running a duratrax evader instead of the pede (come across a heck of a deal on one and its in the box new for only 100 bucks thats the one with the radio too) so from what i hear if i bought that lil truck i wouldnt have to do much of anything at all for it to be brushless ready

of course id be running mashers on the evader for more clearance and less bottoming out but how would the combo work it that truck?

The combo would work just as well in the evader. It is the same type/size vehicle.

evader speed - 04.07.2007, 11:55 AM

the evader st pro is good for brushless speed cause of the weight of the all graphite body. my evader has the mamba max w/ feigeo 380 6t and i just bought a 8000mah 3s lipo pack which fit perfectly in the tray except the height (no biggie) and this thing hauls just make sure u do the tranny upgrades, here is what i did, aluminum idler, associated b2 diff /w rings and bearing, carbide diff balls, carbide thrust balls, double nutted my slipper adjustment, and a rear towblock brace kit. you can also find all this info and more at the rcuniverse forum under evader tech. but my truck flies down the road and seems pretty durable unless u hit something going really fas LOL but its safe to say im hitting 50mph now on an ib4200 7cell and caint wait to see what the lipo does for me. if anything crazy long run times! the only thing i dont like about the evader is the cheap leaky shocks. replace those and ur good to go!
