Rustler VXL motor upgrade - 03.05.2008, 06:53 PM

I just recieved a Feiago 7L for my Rustler, I am liking the 5mm shaft, I am now waiting on a couple of 5mm pinions, a 15 tooth and a 17 tooth, I will be running a 58 tooth jato spur on 4s

I hope he's not running a 7L on 4S. If so, I predict a smoke filled future for that vehicle.

A 10l on 4s would be a better bet, still way too much for a rustler. I ran a 12s feigao on 3s lipo in my pede and that was plenty of power, it would wheely at 40mph and was geared for over 50. I have a tube frame pede/buggy that is about 1/7th scale and run a 9l on 3s in it. No issues there and tons of power too.

9L will be ok on 4S, but the Rustler won't handle that much power very well. I hope you have a gentle throttle finger. Hell, I run a 9L in my Mugen MBX5 that does 43mph.

punch control on highest setting is what i would reccommend, maybe even lower motor timing

I have run the Rustler a few times since the motor uprade and the wheelie bar does get a good workout.....if I go WOT from a stop it wheelies, if I get a slower rolling start its not to bad, I have heard that you can use a Revo spur, I think I will try that, I will just have to get some mod1 pinions. I do like the 32 pitch gears though, I have noticed the Feigao 9L has been running cooler thean the stock VXL motor

There is no way that the 9l could run cooler than the stock vxl motor, that motor is good to run in an emaxx on 4s, and is crazy.

Oh wait, I justy quoted someone else, I have no expereince with the 9l, so my ability to make comparisons does not exist.

Glad that the 9l is working out for you, I always used 32p in my pedes and rustlers, worked out fine for me. Thr revo spurs do fit, but are a bit small. The mgt spurs fit too, but require a smaller bearing and somw drilling of the peg hole. And the 46 is the biggest mod1 spur that will fit before it hits the tranny outdrive.

Keep the vxl motor and use the MM esc with some good batteries. The vxl motor is very underated by people that have no clue of its limits.

Doesn't take much power to get those little trucks fast.
