schulze 18.97 on 5s, what motor - 04.04.2008, 05:27 PM

I've narrowed it down to either a kb45 8l 2200kv or a medusa research 36-60 2000kv. Now, then schulze is made for 4 and 6 pole plettys, and the timing is set up for that. The medusa is a 4 pole, and is rated for 900 watts. The kb is a 2 poler and rated well over 2000 watts. Given the schulzes combustible reputation, am I better running a lower watt load? Should I care about the pole count? Batteries will be 2x zippy 5s 5000mah in parallel for 10,000mah.

I'll be just checking in here to see how your 18.97 is doing after you start running your vehicle.

the burnt up ones always seem to be because of connectors, so I'm soldering directly. anyone have any input on my motor querys?

I wouldn't blame the connectors. It looks more like a design problem with the 18.97 and higher AMP models (Except the one that uses the big FETs). I haven't done a search to see if the lower AMP models had done this as well. I think the other guys that had the unpleasent experiance probably had the right wire length and it still went up in flames. I hope you don't get to see it. If my truck was further away from me, it would've burned down for sure.

What is this going in? My experience with the KB45 motors is that they really do not get hot, and have tons of power. You may overload the medusa, depending on gearing and vehicle weight. Plus you will have a decent amount of battery weight. I just ordered the 1500kv 60mm medusa motor, and will use it in a buggy. Hope they come out with a longer can, that will be better for a larger rc with heavier tires, etc.

so- a lighter load on a 2000 watt powerhouse or a heavy load on a 900 watt 4 poler, would either have a lighter amp load? I know I should just get a neu but times are tough in the land of 10,000 lakes.

I would say less load on a larger motor is better, but what do I know...

Just don't use maxamps batteries and you will be fine.

I can't believe you posted the sale on 10,000mah maxamps cells. FUNNY. Jason from maxamps is in Minnesota, i'm still willing to leave wheelchair tracks on peoples faces for ya....................................

for new forum members- there is no animosity between anyone here or at maxamps, I'm just having a little fun, I hope by taking on the pimps lightwork that he might teach me the open handed smackdown
