Question Good Brand of Lipos??? - 04.07.2008, 09:28 AM

I have searched the forums for a answer to the most reliable Lipo batteries and have found a few brands.

MaxAmps
PolyQuest
Neu Energy
Thunder Power

I have had a few max amps packs but have only ran them in my heli so they seemed to perform good. I do not do 3-D flying so i really wasn't able to load these batteries up to see how they would do.
My configuration will be as follows-
FLM BL Chassis for Savage w/3 Speed tranny (47t spur and 16-20t Pinion)
MMM (when it hits the shelves)
Neu BL Motor (not sure on what one yet, but raw speed and power is needed)

Now I need suggestions on a battery. I want to run at least 5000mah (for good run times) and running the MMM i believe i would need at least a 100a Cont. Lipo if not more(not sure on final ratings of this controller)??? I do not mind spending money on a good battery but only if is just that, a good battery. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Nick

Not sure if this should have went in the General Discussion or not. Sorry if it is wrong.

NeuEnergy, or Polyquest. Both available from RC-Monster store.

Any enerland cell based pack will do. Neuenergy, flightpower, polyrc and polyquest use enerland cells. How many cells do you plan to use? The MMM is rated for 6cells max. A 5000mah 6s pack would give you great runtimes and plenty of power for the correct neu motor in your application.

Flightpower
NeuEnergy
ThunderPower
Hyperion
Polyquest

For big lipos, those are probably the only brands I'd buy. After seeing problems with puffy MaxAmps lipos lately on the forums, I wouldn't buy them.

That is the plan to run 6s. Not sure if i will run one big 6s pack or 3 2s or even 2 3s. But 6s total cells for sure. The choices. Thanks for the help everyone. Oh and i am here to contest to puffing maxamps cells. Had a 5000hv 2s puff on me for no apparent reason.

Me too, that is when I bought my pair of trakpower packs. Maxamps did send me a new pack, but i had to get my lhs to send a bunch of emails and other communication.

I was going to try and get them to give me another but they sat so long the warranty was over with. I did check the packs for voltage and what not while storing so that is not why it puffed. Actually puffed while running it in my heli.

TrueRC's are not bad at all as well for the money. I run a pair of their 5S batts and they are great.

Question Found a Few Selections!! :mdr: - 04.08.2008, 09:07 AM

K going by everyones feed back and since i want to support mike here are my choices.

Neu 2s 25c 5000mah x 3 for 6s Total cost is $285
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...od=neu2shc5000

Neu 3s 25c 5000mah x 2 for 6s Total cost is $320
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...eu3s5000car25c

TrakPower 2s 4900 mah x 3 for 6s Total cost is $359.85
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...=AFT-T49002S1P

Flight Power Lipo 3s 5000mah x 2 for 6s Total cost is $370
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...o5000-3s1p-25c

PolyQuest XP Lipo 4s 5000mah 25c x 2 for 8s Total cost is $495 but 8s (couldn't find a 6s setup in 5000mah)
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...=PQXP4s500025c

What setup should i get?? I know The 8s would be sweet but will MMM handle it?? I know know one will know until the release. The 2s Neu is the cheapest but will require more wiring hence more resistance. What are your thoughts on this??? Pros and Cons???? Thanks Nick

I'd go for the 2 - Neu 3S packs. You really don't want to mess with the amount of wiring necessary to put 3 - 2S packs in series. Also, the 3S Neu packs will fit in standard battery trays, so you could use them individually in other 1/10 vehicles as well.

My thoughts exactly on the 2s packs. As far as the 3s fitting in 1/10 that is just a plus for me because i will not have any 1/10 but the option is there i suppose. Thanks for the input skellyo.

the 2s neu packs are out of stock anyways. i m loooking for those exact packs and i cant seem to find them anywhere else besides neumotors. but i hear bad things about them. and mike hasnt responded back to when he will have these batteries back in stock so i could be awhile.

edit:nevermind i just spoke to mike, those neus will be back in stock very soon.

Take a look at the flightpower prices for 6s packs on tower hobbies. They are the same price as the 5s packs, great deal, IMO. Plus all of the cells are matched to each other, where 2 seperate packs will not have 6 total matched cells, just 2 pairs of 3 matched cells. I just say this as after a hard run with my trakpower packs, one is always slightly stronger than the other, and requires balancing. I run and charge them in series, BTW.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...GHTPOWER++6s++

Most of the higher mah packs are the same price as the 5s packs of the same cells. No idea why, but it makes sense to go with 6s.

That is cool. Thanks. I think i may go with this one. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXRWB3&P=7
I have so many options but at least i narrowed it down to a full 6s pack adn not 2 or 3 to make a 6s. I also started a thread on a good balancer and found the right one which would be a Lba10 but these flightpower packs have a balancer that tower sells too. but I cant link the flightpower balancer to be able to balance 12s in the future. So i think the lba10 is the best choice with an adapter to charge the flight power packs.
