Wheel play, replace axel carriers ? -
04.08.2008, 05:39 AM
I got a used Revo that has some unwanted wheel play.
I can move the wheel by hand back/forwad and feel the play, its not much but my crt.5 is solid as a rock when I do the same.
I have shimmed my 24 mm hexes, checked wheelnuts. tightend the pivotball "nuts", replaced the bearings on one wheel but some play is still there.
When checking I noticed some play between the outer bearing and the axel carrier.
Can axel carriers get "worn" (not talking about pivot balls popping) and is this normal ?
If I should replace them should I go for stockers or an aftermarket brand ?

They certainly can get worn.

I dont want to replace them if I dont have to...

Yeah that sounds like typical problem. Bearing quality can have some effect as does worn bearings. If the bearing falls out of the axle carrier easily, instead of fitting tightly, it is likely time for new ones. I usually don't worry about it as much on my basher as I do on the racing cars.

Axle carriers -

would going to an aluminum axle carrier help, I have the same issue with a used roller I am building on, I have some washers ordered to shim between the wheel and wheel nut, so I will see what I need, I remember Brian had written in a recent post about running a Revo with aluminum carriersand he uses those because he had gotten a good deal on them, I have thought of upgrading to the RPM carriers

Yes, aluminum ones are usually better (if they are good quality) and last longer.

Look for the RD racing axle carriers. They are supposed to be really good and allow you to use the RD racing 8mm drive axles as well.
