Awsome Luck -
09.10.2005, 02:14 AM
I've been looking for a 1/8 buggy to convert to electric. Well i was at the local dirt oval track tonight. A racing buddy i have"nt seen for a while was there and mentioned he had a buggy he was looking to get rid of. We worked out a deal, he said all i have to do is let him drive my EVO once and he will give me the buggy. He gave me the buggy tonight it is a MUGEN MBX 4 in very good condition is that good luck or what:eek: .

Thank's dafni !!!
A guy thats been racing a while. It will be okay because he's not a hack he can drive. III just got it tonight & i've already statted the conversion:L: . I removed the the nitro crap, i also cut down the radio tray & repositioned the steering servo,i moved it a little more towards the center to make some more room for 7 of the 14 cells on the right side of the car. It has AL center diff mounts so i going to keep the mugen center diff, i know it has a steel spur but it's a mugen diff. Better than a ofna diff in my opinion ( no offense intended to any one with a ofna diff ). I'm going to get a hardened pinion for it. What motor do you recomend for it ?.

My MBX5 will get a 7XL. This motor is right in the most efficient range on 14 cells. (and it works on 12 up to 18 cells)
Can't wait to get my buggy! Mugen buggies are top notch!

Even thou this is a MBX4 not a MBX 5 its still a awsome buggy to convert & its FREE LOL!!!. It's still a competitive buggy in the right hands & its a MUGEN .
I'm figureing out the electronics lay out know. Use your imagination for a minute. I plan on putting 7 cells on each side( of coruse). I plan on putting the motor on the left rear, & the speedo on the left front, ans the steering servo on the right front. I think that layout will give me the cleanest look. What do you think about my layout idea ?.

For sure! Some racers actually prefer the 4 over the 5!!
Mugen is top notch quality, no doubt. And you can't argue with the price you got!!
I'm happy for you, Hippie. Will give a toast on you and your new buggy tonight, just as I did when I saw your Revo:)
Way to go, mate! Wish me luck on my MBX5 deal!

Hmm, I would also keep the servo on the right front (right, when you look at it from behind, right?!). But then I would put the ESC on the right, next to the diff, and the motor on the left. (the diff is a bit offset to the right, correct?) So I would try to keep the motor as centered as possible. Front left, I would put RX and UBEC.
Just my 2 cents
How about my toast on you? It's still morning here, but tonight I'll celebrate the newest addition to your RC family!

I thought about doing it that way ,but to run 14 cells i would have to raise the speedo off the chassis. I would have to mount it on top of the batteries, not really a big deal but not as clean looking. And thank's for the toast LOL!!!. What pinion would recomend for the 7xl ?.

My layout idea might just work if you put the ESC (warrior) on its side.
ABout gearing. Take the tire circumfence, final reduction, and calculate for 40mph (14 cells).
What spur will you be running?
Later, I gotta go now

That sure is a good deal. Can't beat the price. Hope the conversion works out for you. I supposed to get a buggy to. Next weekend delivered to me. I want to convert that as well. I don't like nitro. Brushless is better. I don't think my luck will be like dabid. Get a pic of my ride in the magazine.
Peace!

I tell you the truth. I don't really know what I bought. It is a 1/8 scale buggy. I seen the guy run it. I wanted to wear him out with the emaxx. He wouldn't race me. I have a 14L. I will probably use that for now. Should be this friday evening. Brother bringing up when he comes. I was down bashing at his house when I saw the buggy. Brother neighbor. Have to let you know hippie. I not sure How to tell the buggies apart.
Peace!
