Latest Project, E-jato -
05.14.2008, 09:37 PM
Hey guys, been doing a little brainstorming whilste runnin the Outrunner Raze....in short i want to go FASTER!
I really Like the capabilities of the Jato, its built for speed but with yucky nitro (ewwww ) I really want to do a Jato Conversion....
I plan on running:
MM
5s 4000mah zippy zipo
Feigao Xl or L motor (turn undecided)
32p gears
I want to shoot for 75mph... Kind of high but i think its posssible from a 6lb truck.
BrianG's Calculator tells me that i need a Wanderer/Feigao 11 or 12L, about 2100kv.
Should i get an Xl with a comprable kv instead?

That's gonna be a heavy Jato with 5s and an L motor!
One thing you'll notice that with the Jato being RWD and the majority of the weight in the middle is poor traction in dirt. Certainly driveable, but a little squirrely. But if this is just for speed, then you should be ok.
FYI: I have the MM 4600 system in mine, single speed tranny, on 2s, geared 54/22 (IIRC) and it was clocked at 47mph. Not fast, but considering I could easily go up to 4s...

Get one of the 1/8" shaft 50mm medusa motors. They are good motors and can handle the heavier battery pack. I did a jato, and it was ok. Not my favorite though.

I have a Rustler with 4s 9L (2700 KV) motor, and I have speeds in the 70mph area no way can you drive it in the dirt, I see no reason for anything larger than a L can, and I have tried the stock 48 pitch , 32 pitch and Mod ! gears...Mod 1 are far the best

Very nice!!! why cant they make a 13s..... that would be perfect, ehhh
with the 12s, and 5s lipo it would be pushing 53,560rpm unloaded..... think thats pushing it too far? or would it benifit me to get a L can

you could go with a 12L ....with a 5s that would give you about 38,000RPMs about the max I would send through the Feigao, and with the extra torque you can gear it up, which is what I have done

Or just get a Neu 1509 or 1512 (if you want severe speed/power). Don't have to worry as much about rpm and won't have any heat issues...

Or a medusa v2 if you want to save some money over the neu. The 50mm version looks to be compareable to the 1506, maybe not in material quality thought. I have the 60mm version and it has plenty of power to run an 1/8 buggy. The 50mm would make a jato scream. The 2200kv model on 5s would be plenty, but those motors can handle 50k rpm.
