What does it take to get an emaxx tranny on a monster gt? I just picked one up. It is nitro for now. I was thinking of going stock titans that i have for now. Use to to thrash around some. I may go brushless later.

Looks like an easy conversion to me, you only need other dogbones, concidering the long shaft in the gearbox.

I agree with Serum that it should be pretty straight-forward to get the E-Maxx tranny in the MGT, but the tough part may be finding the right dogbones/CVDs to get the power to the front and rear diffs. Once you size the tranny up you can just start looking around on manufacturer and retailer websites for parts that may fit, then check here on the forum to see if Mike can get what you need.

I regularly forget that you guys are experts on what to do with an E-Maxx tranny :)
My E-Maxx tranny is still in my (mostly stock) E-Maxx...silly me :D

I'd be inclined to use a short rear dogbone(MGT one may work?) and then have a long one made for the front to keep the weight distribution rearward.That's just me though,just a suggestion,alot of trucks seem to work best with a rear-mid engined type weight distribution but the downside is you will compromise turn in and on power steering,but you gain rear grip/traction.

Or go for middle for the tranny(equal length drive shafts),and have your batts able to move forward or back for adjustable weight distribution.

Do you all think it would be better for a center diff or emaxx tranny? I would like your input to batfish. Since you have the center diff.

Depends what you are doing. If you plan on racing the MGT, a center diff would be much better, because it will improve cornering and will reduce weight. But for just bashing around, the E-Maxx tranny will do just fine. If it were me, though, I would go for the center diff just for simplicity.

Yeah it just depends what you plan to do with it,for general bashing around i'd go with the e-maxx box.It's lower geared and easy to install.Plus gearing is nice and low for a monster truck.With a 51t spur you have 12 to 20T pinions to chose which is a nice range of gearing for a truck like the MGT.For speed runs or 60mph type speeds the center diff gearing is better.

For racing, go center diff for lower weight,lower center of gravity (lowers motor considerably).Gearing low enough can be more challenging though.

If you can hold off for about a week, I'm going to be getting more stats on the MGT with the center diff.
I'll be hooking an EagleTree recorder up to the MGT and running it with the 10L geared at 12/51, using the MGM 12012.
I will be testing with 3s and 4s lipo, and 12-cell nimh. I'll get the information on each during some back yard bashing, then post it on the forum.
This can give you (and anyone else who is interested) good data for this setup.

FYI - when I ran it with 3s lipo, the 10L at 15/51, and the MGM 12012 at the track last week, the 10L got too warm for my liking.

I am not in big hurry. So test away batfish. I was checking out the truck. I will have to build spacers for the emaxx tranny. That or cut the bottom out of chassis. The chassis is still wider than tranny by a little. I go for the spacer. I will have to keep the forum up to date as well.

In this one i used a centerdiff.

My experiences are that it runs silcky smooth, and steering and handling of a centerdiff truck is lovely. put 40 serie wheels on it, and it's like driving a 1/10th touring car.. (allmost then..;) )

You won't be able to pull wheelies badly, but hey, i don't mind doing no wheelies at all..

The tires that are on it serum now are 44 series. I think imex makes them. 4.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches tall. I not going for speed. I have a few hill I play on to. I not ruling out the diff. I just not sure if it works for hill climbing. Would have to run thick oil in diff if I did. I am open minded person.

If you do end up with the center diff and want to do some hill climbing (and performance suffers due to the diff) you can always lock the center diff with a neat trick I learned a little while back - put silly putty in it. It's thick enough to lock the diff and it doesn't stick to anything so it's easy to remove when you want to un-lock it.

I would have never thought silly putty. Sounds like it would work. I think I will go for the emaxx tranny first. I may put a center diff on my gmaxx and the emaxx tranny on monster gt.
