Anyone ran both a 1512 & 1515 in Revo?

Anyone ran both a 1512 & 1515 in Revo? - 05.31.2008, 06:46 PM

I am seriously thinking of getting a 1515 motor upgrade over the 1512 I have now. So, anybody having run both 1515, and 1512 running roughly the same motor RPM, can you comment how much of a difference there is? As far as:

-torque
-power
-smoothness
-temps?
-Which do you prefer?

I've run 1515 1.5y & the 1515 3ds and have had great success with both motors in my E-Revo / GEVO with now complaints at all in any of your categories referenced above.

I was always under the impression that 1512 and under are for buggy's / lighter builds??.

But I did just recently get a buggy and I'm looking for a 1512 motor now, so if you're looking to sell yours, feel free to pm me with pics and price.

Ive run the 1521/1Y, 1515/2.5D and 1512/2.5D (all on 5s lipo) in my Revo. Right now I have a 1512/2.5D in it. It feels the best on the track to me. Plenty of power and a little snappier than the bigger motors. But for general bashing and high speed open field runs I like the 1515/2.5D. Its got just a little extra torque and runs a touch cooler, but both produce acceptable temps. The 1521 is just more motor than I could ever hope to need or use. Its actully just been sitting in a box the last 6 months. I'm actually thinking about selling it.

Between the 1512 and 1515 I would say it depends on what you plan to do with it. Either motor will be a good choice.

Yeah, like I was keeping ahead of a big block Revo today at a bashing meet, but I just want more high speed torque, for lifting that front end of course. I noticed too that the 1512 is pretty snappy, compared to a 7XL, which has a bigger heavier rotor which affects it of course.

The way it is right now, with a 7s2p A123 pack on it, 15/38 gearing (42mph) is the limit for keeping the temps at a nice level. I would like to gear it up some more , and have more torque, so the 1515 should do this just right.

Unless, has anyone ever ran 8s A123 on the MMM? I know 7s A123 should be no prob, as it's same as 6s lipo. Any thoughts? Cuz then I might be able to get some more rpm's from the motor and maybe that will do it? They can handle high rpm's I know that.

The 1515 should let you get a bit more top end and keep reasonable temps.

I wouldnt try overvolting the MMM. Castle has stated in no uncertain terms that the MMM WILL NOT handle voltage over 6s lipo. Period. So if you try it... It will likely be at your own risk.

Yeah, I suppose... going from 3s on the mm to 4s is one thing, but 6s to 7s is another thing, much more risky. Seeing as it's already hard enough to get a controller working safely on 6s for cars.
