Which controller? - 06.13.2008, 05:23 PM

Which controller for E-Maxx - I have wanderer 7XL and 8XL the controller (warrior 12020) is giving me problems. Which controller would you recommend - running 14 cells. Hopefully will go LIPO in the future.

What is your budget, timeline and long term plans...

Given the motor you currently have 4S on a mild mod MM (Ubec/Fan/Cap) would be fine.

Else wait a bit for up to 6S on the MMM.

How long can you wait? The MM will work up to 4s, but may heat up without a fan. If you can wait, the MMM may be a better choice for future motor and/or voltage upgrades.

EDIT: Dang, I type too slow...

Ok, I am pretty green at this...what is MMM? I hope to keep this in a $150-200 range. I am pretty frustrated with the 12020 and am considering a HV-Maxx. If there is a reliable controller I would like to go with it becuase the 8XL worked great with excellent speed. I don't think I will break past a pair of 3s in the future for Lipo. I want to keep it simple. 35-40 mph is plenty of speed.

Mamba Monster (maxx) although the maxx part isn't actually in the name anymore. Capable of up to 6s, ultra smooth, and highly programmable, it's the best bang for the buck you can get and a far cry better than any bk controller made.

What if, like me, you can't wait the 3 to 5 weeks for the MMM to come back in stock?

What would be the next choice?

I'll willing to go to $300 for a controller.

That's a slight exaggeration. Most of the failures didn't even smoke, they stopped working and CC has isolated the issue and is testing the new component right now. Go to the CC forum on here and you will see more and this is coming straight from Patrick.

My MMM was a great controller until the National Semi component failed and once that is resolved I am positive it will be flawless.

What about the R1Pro? I know some have used it on 5s in a truggy. I don't have any experience with it yet, but I would think it would handle a Maxx nicely. The videos for the forthcoming R8 in a Maxx were just a R1Pro.

Smooth throttle control, U.S. support, and available now. Plus it's alot smaller than the MMM. May need to add a fan, though.
