BrianG is da man! - 07.16.2008, 01:42 PM

I would just like to thank Brian for paying his server bill! I did not know what to do with myself when the r/c calc site was down, had to resort to a calculator and endless scaps of paper to figure out my gearing!!

In all seriousness, that site is great. I use it all of the time. Just want to extend a big thanks to Brian for making that and updating it for us!

I agree. i had no idea he paid for a server. I just assumed it was ran on his private server from his home or something. Any way he deserves a thanks because he pays for our convenience.

Awww, thanks guys!

Yeah, I pay for my server, but it's not just the R/C Calc site. When I started learning HTML/Javascript/DHTML, I created a bunch of scripts that I had to put somewhere, so the scriptasylum site was born. It had it's day, but now just sits there for reference un-updated as I don't do that just for fun anymore.

I also use the site for: My personal page (really have to update that!), my brushless conversions (link in sig), a place to put backups of some things I can't lose, and a place to host pictures.

I toyed with getting rid of it a while back, but it's pretty cheap (~$30/year) for what I get: 120GB space, 1.2TB transfer, 262k files, and domain name. There is capability for a MySQL database, which is currently unused, but may start creating my own ASP apps someday. Although, I kinda like keeping stuff client-based because it allows me to use everything offline if I need to.

You can feel the love...

I did notice a slight issue with downloading the programme though- one needs to select 'open with internet explorer' as the default setting in order for it to run correctly, otherwise it opens with word and doesnt work.

That depends on the file associations on the specific computer. Microsoft likes to take over everything, so I'm not surprised. You can adjust the associations for HTM and HTML files to be whatever default you want.

Yes, praised be Brian! He hath cometh and shall taketh away your fans!

Seriously, thanks for making the calc page available for download. Now I can check my gearing anywhere without the need for WiFi! Yeah!

I myself pretty much depend on this. I tried other site before that BrianG's seems to be the most complete and accurate script for computation. All my motor selection and gearing were computed with his site. So far everything is looking good...

Thanks Brian...

PS: I saw a good button to thank you....I will use it come this pay day :)

Set your file association for HTMl under the open with (right click the file, open with, choose a browser in the list, then select always use this program for this type of file.)

I was going to mention to everyone that there's a link on the calc site to donate a buck or two through Paypal for the site. I pushed a few buck his way a while back because I was using it several times a day. When I say using it I mean had it opened all the time at work and home. I really appreciate all the work he put into it. With his calc site and his posts on this site. There isn't anyone else in the RC world that comes close to the amount of help he has given me. He doesn't even know it. Thanks BrianG.

I don't see the link for the paypal donation on the calc site anymore. Is it tuck away somewhere BrianG?

With the amounts of money I spend on RC stuff a couple dollars to help keep the calc site going isn't even a drop in the bucket.
