Expensive day with the elst and MGM

First the steering servo stopped working. I replaced it and checked my bec voltage 5.4. So I went to run it again and in about 2 min the bec died. So I strapped on a receiver pack. Tried again, within a min no steering again. Another servo later and now I have no response from the esc. It lights up, the computer sees it thru the USB. It just acts like the radio is not hooked up. Steering is smooth and doesn't bind. Drive train is free. First servo was an airtronics 94358, second was an airtronics 94361, Bec was a Turnigy 5a, esc is a MGM 22418 running a outrunner in a Lst on 6s lipo

Bad esc? Sounds like you may be having some issues with that...

I could see the first servo but what about after the bec was out of the picture? How could the esc be affected by the bec? The esc own bec wire is disconnected so the radio ran on the turnigy bec only.

I figured the esc was sending some sort of screwed up signal down the signal wires. I would test the componets one at a time with a different radio setup. What are you currently using for a radio?

Futaba 3pks I was using an HRS receiver with the first two servos but I switched it out for a standard fm on the last one. I tried everything with different radio gear and still the esc won't respond. The bec only has + and - wires, no signal. Even if the bec sent full battery power to the radio the esc should be ok. Unless it sent + voltage down the - wire

It's the gremlins, again. This one is stumping me. I would also say it's a bad ESC, though I can't figure out why. I can't explain why the servos failed either. You could take it a step further and assume it was a defective reciever that caused all the trouble. You said you tried the defective gear with other recievers, have you tried the reciever with other expendable, but otherwise functional gear? The signal coming from the reciever may be too strong, and it is frying the brains of your gear. Maybe a shorted resistor in the reciever allowing too much current to pass? *Idea* Maybe HRS has something ot do with it. Try other gear in non-HRS and confirm that all works well over a long period. The switch on the HRS and see if anything changes. Just a thought.

I don't have any "spare" digital servos to try. The HRS receiver was brand new too. It worked with the MGM fine until yesterday. I'll send all of it back to their makers for repair and see what they say.

While waiting for my mgm to come back from its homeland. I picked up a mamba monster v2. Well I didn't even get a speed run out of it before the flames started.

Desmo, not sure about this but I search and it seems that those servo are analog servo. Are you using HRS mode or PPM/PCM? If HRS then you might really burned your servo as HRS is not compatible to analog once. It happen to me before then I remember that I havent change my memory settings on the 3PK. This could result to short on the circuit killing everything.....Lucky for me I got to disconnect them on time..Servo was hot...

Yes that was the original problem but now thats fixed. The servo was an older analog. Now it has a ppm receiver in it. MGM said the esc looks like it got power on the ground leg of the receiver wire. Probably from the ubec shorting out from overloading.

Dude, check ot the castle section- MMMs going pop left, right and center. Flaming deaths or rarer thankfully- you got unlucky.

MGM esc just came back from mgm today, Even though I got home from work late I still had to try it out. Not quite the snap of the MMM but it wheelies down the street at speed enought to hit the fin on the pavement! I'll run it tomorrow when its not dark outside ;)

My MGM is also about to arrive......let us know how it goes tomorrow

Runs great but I can see already the cheep turnigy motor is not enough for it. I ran for about 15min up and down the street. The esc was 130 and the motor was 140. The motor now feels tight and hard to turn by hand. I think I'll try a axi next with a cooling fan.
