MM and CC/BEC - 07.23.2008, 09:00 PM

I'am wanting to get a Bec other than the castle Bec to use with a MM ESC and will be running it in an E-MAXX WITH 2 2S packs and a series Harness to make a total of 4Sto many guys on the Traxxas Forum have said there reciever's are getting wrecked a guy also just wrecked his Lipo's and Bec thanks to castle.I was wondering about the Novak high voltage Bec it is priced 24.99 and is go for up to 7S Lipo's.Are there anyothers that do not go up in smoke more often than not meaning the castle's up in smoke more.I'm looking at getting a Bec that can be gotten threw Horizon or Great Planes.

I don't know about the Novak BEC, but I've been using the Koolflight UBEC for over a year and love it.

EDIT: Here it is:

That looks good, I have been running a bunch of cc becs for my setups under 6s. I have a couple of the hv capable turnigy becs, but they are huge, like a mamba 25 esc!!!

I may have to try this, IIRC BrianG tested it and said it was one of the best...

Never tested a Novak BEC, but the KoolFlight UBEC, Hercules HVBEC, and DimensionEngineering parkBEC are all at the top of the list IMO (in no special order).

The CC BEC is great for its size, programming, and high currents, but the noise levels are a bit high (although has never caused me issues with my Hyper8 along with a 1000uF/10v cap) and the fact that it outputs full battery voltage on failure makes me a little leary.

Thanks for the fast replie's guys,I think I may try the Novak HV Bec and one of the others the olny thing my shop had in stock was the CC/BEC and I just don't trust it to stay in my truck more than 2 or 3 months. The one thing I like about Novak is they a good name at making stuff that does not break down all the time.

lol breaking is all I've ever heard about novak ESC's, in particular the HV ones. There was someone on here who had 3 or 4 of them melt on him without any abnormal use. Made me steer well clear of novak.

The only breaking of castles stuff I've ever heard of is the first gen mamba monsters.

That said, I'm a bit disappointed with my ccbec making my cars glitch, but a cap should fix that.

Brian: Would it be better plug the cap into the Rx (glitch buster style) or as close to the output of the bec as possible? I'm thinking the closer to the Rx the better.. but I'm not really sure.

Probably would be best to have the cap close to the source of the noise (BEC), but I've always just put a short servo lead/connector on a cap and plugged it into the CH3 port on the Rx.
