How to take apart your Mamba 6800 motor... - 07.27.2008, 05:38 PM

1. Take your appropriately equipped Mamba 18th scale vehicle out to an open road early Sunday morning for some high speed runs.

2. Warm up everything with a few 45 MPH runs.

3. Ease into your wide open runs, seeing 55 MPH on your radar gun.

4. Launch your vehicle from step 1 over a small blip in the road, and send it sailing into a light pole, stopping the truck DEAD in its tracks.

5. Wonder briefly where all of that energy went.

6. Proceed to walk to your vehicle from step 1, and realize the Mamba is now in more than one piece inside of the truck.

7. Rush home to take pictures with your camera phone so you can post online.

All joking aside, I realized it wasn't a total disaster, the can came off of the end cap, and the center shaft was left there as well. I looked at the end cap and saw some epoxy residue on there, so whipped up some JB Weld, was careful not to put on a ton (can't imagine that'll help things spin freely when it dries), and got it back together with some vise work (couldn't do it by hand).

It's drying now, but I did lightly drive around my apartment and it's spinning just fine.

Enjoy the pictures, and if my tactic doesn't work the same for you, post your method so we can compare notes.

Mine snapped the shaft with 6S . I don't know what I was thinking. Forgot to mention the mounting screws shattered.

I just ran mine on 18 cells and put a little prop on it. The motor was floating. It was cool.
