Been running a 7XL in my E-Maxx on 4s for a few months now.
Heat can be an issue.
Not sure about running your gearing, but it might be better with a MMM than the MM I am using. I've been running 22/62 and it seems like about as high as I would gear it. When it gets hot(and it will), the motor starts to cog enough to make lower speed driving not that fun and higher speed driving just makes it worse, so you hafta either stop n chill or drive easy for a bit.
Like I said, the MMM may correct some of that.
If you're using 8th scale diffs, your gearing might work, but otherwise, you might want to pick up a larger spur just in case.

i have also been running the 7xl with some pretty good temps. i can run for about 15 mins and temps are around 150. i take 2-3 breaks everytime i run. my trick is to cut out both front and rear windshields, and applied thermal paste between the motor and rcm motorclamp.
j3110, i havent checked out those places in berkeley yet, but i did drive by one time on the freeway, and i saw biiiig mounds of dirt just right around that area. you can see it on the freeway. looks pretty promising. once i check it out, ill let you know if its worth going k.

^^^ All that and it's still 150*? Wow. I guess it's OK since without those modifications, and breaks, it would probably be hot enough to demagnetize after a 15 minute run.

yea im geared pretty high too. 24/68. yea you def. need to take at least one break during your run. im pretty happy with my 7xl though. i think my temps are pretty good from hearing what others have thier temps at.

I can fry an egg on my 7XL. To get temps of 150 deg I had to go down to a 9xl with conservative gearing. In my ofna buggy I now run a nemesis xlt motor (1700kv)it has an extra wind for more torque which gave me super wheelie power but shot my temps back up to 185..I used thermal paste on my rcm heatsink clamp and that did nothing ...now I'm strapping a 40mm cooling fan to it hoping for maybe 20deg lower temps.
