What motor to run with MM for crt.5 or LS10? - 08.28.2008, 04:20 PM

Sorry this is my last new thread for awhile...i feel like a nuisance with my threads!

I have an MM controller and a VXL motor and two 3s 5000mah packs for my rustler. I would like to use the MM controller. Should I use the vxl motor on 3s, or sell it for something else?

What about those cheap 30-35 dollar L and XL can motors. Is 3s not enough to spin an XL can motor? What about an L? (like a 9L?).

I am willing to sell my 3s packs and get a couple 4s packs (probably less MAH so I can afford them lol) if 4s is a better option than 3s for these truggies.

I plan to run some pretty tall tires @ 4.0-5.0 height and 2.0-3.0 width. I would like to gear for 35-40 mph but dont want a lot of heat.

What do you pro's think I should do?

Anybody have a link to those cheap zippy lipo's everyone keeps posting about? I would like to have two packs.. What MAH would 100 bucks get me for 4s (if thats what you recommend)? Maybe two smaller 4s mah packs? Or one bigger MAH 4s pack.

The MM, VXL on 3s 5000 packs will run perfectly well in the CRT.5 - don't change a thing

sweet! Thats exactly what i was hoping to hear!

I got the vxl motor over the mm5700 as everyone said it has more torque, which should help with 4wd and turning the bigger tires I want to run.

5700kv is too fast for 4wd - 3500kv vxl should be fine

The 8L is a great motor in either truck on 3s. My crt.5 is a little speed machine with it and a 20T pinion.

I had a LS10 that I ran on the same motor for a while with great sucess.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Would an 8L outperform the vxl motor on 3s? (assuming yes, as its a longer can?)

I want gobs of torque with decent run time and 35+ (hopefully 40) mph top speed. I guess I can try the vxl out first and if its not what I want I can change the motor. This way I already have tons of pinions I can use.

You said you had an ls10 and now a crt.5? Which do you like better? Have any pics of either of them next to other rc's? I am still trying to figure out exactly how big these things are (I Know the dimensions, but I think they are a little smaller than I am picturing).

Thanks!

Stick with the CRT .5 - there are a few going on RCU including one with the v1 RCM extended chassis. The VXL is like an M can - in between s and L and should be fine.

They are both made by feigao.

The vxl motor is no differnt in size than a s can feigao, and the windings are slightly shorter. Magnet length is the same. A l can will do better if you plan to run heavier tires and high top speed.

personally I'm running a CRT.5 with a 36-50-4800 medusa motor. I have run it with traxxas slash tires, geared approprietlly, and it does well and doesn't look to weird. I'm only running on 2s, hence the 4800kv motor. I gear it for mid to upper 30's and with a 6000mah 2s pack getting about 20 minutes of mostly full speed runs. Temps are good too, esc 160*, motor 125-130*, and LiPo at about 100* I just can't run a second pack without a few minutes cooling as the esc for some reason gets real hot so I just give it 5 minutes between runs. On that note I can vouch that this is an incredible little truck, much better than the rc18t it replaced in my fleet.

But bigger than the rc18t right? lol I still am trying to track down a picture of one of these next to a rustler or other truck so I can see the size difference!

i still stand behind what i said,

9l , 3s, mm w/bec and youll be golden EXCELLENT 35mph setup (im running Komodo lp TRUGGY tires on halfoff set wheels with 17mm which is about as heavy of a tire you can put on this truck and i dont have any temp problems and get 30 mins+ runtime with the big tires
