What gearing for crt.5 on MM/VXL motor/ 3s? - 09.02.2008, 06:52 PM

I posted this in the truggy forum, but noticed there are a lot of crt.5 users who post in here as well. I would like input from as many people as possible.

I will be running 2.2 tires, road rages for messing around on the street. I also have some slick 1/8 buggy tires that I will use for street (they are 4.1 inches tall).

For offroad I will be using regular 1/8 buggy tires (moab's/badlands @ about 4.25 inches tall). I also have some pretty good sized ofna blazer sst tires which are about 4.5 inches tall and 2.25 inches wide. These might be overkill on the crt.5 but I would like to try them.

What should I start with for gearing? I would like about 40mph top speeds (45 would be fine). I dont want to be over or under geared. Another member helped me figure out the stock tires with .3 inches of ballooning will be about 41mph geared with a 14 tooth pinion.

I just want to get one pinion first to help save on the cost (cant afford to just buy 4-5 pinions @ 15 bucks each!). Should I start with a 12 so I can run my offroad tires for sure? (and then depending on how that runs, go with a 14 or so for the onroad tires?).

Thanks!
Mike
