Question Losi 8IGHT 2.0 - 09.15.2008, 01:00 AM

Neobuggy.net have already snapped up pics of the new parts coming out for the 8IGHT 2.0. Still no news if it will be a conversion kit or whole new kit

Is it just me, or does that chassis not look like aluminum? Perhaps some composite?

Speculated viciously last week, here is some evidence of the 'new parts' which most Losi cars will feature at the Farm II from tomorrow. You can see below the new chassis, a couple of mm longer at the rear, and new shock towers. All the parts we saw are all made in effort to lighten the car, they include caster blocks, bulkhead, brake discs.

It's definitely aluminum in the middle.. but it looks like there's.... 3 distinct layers?! crazy!

its aluminum.... anyone pick up the counter sunk holes where the droop screw touches the chassis... pretty trick, a small hardened steel flat head screw goes there so you won't get holes on your chassis where the droop screw touches...

man I LOVE the 8ight. I wouldn't trade mine for any other 1/8th buggy.

Interesting though.. that's not the original BowTie design either. Must be a new tire? Here's the bow-tie I'm familiar with... On the new tire the center ribs are not spied and the outer knobs are.

Also, what's up with the antenna tube? Looks huge! Is that just the angle? It looks normal in the first photo... I wonder if it's the new Ultimate Racing antenna..

Also interesting is the choice of plastic chassis stiffeners. It seems the only notable upgrades (aside from the 2.0 kit) are the caster blocks and hinge pin braces.

Edit - Just noticed the photos were taken at different times. Notice the silver nuts on the shock mounting posts in the first few photos and then blue in the latter. The antenna looks different too. This must be Truhe's or Drake's. They recently announced they were testing some new products for Ultimate racing including antenna tubes and other hardware.

There's a bunch of other changes too...

- The turnbuckles are lighter.
- All of the hardware is now black.
- The new fuel tank (still clunk style) is IFMAR and EFRA legal.
- New front caster blocks with additional adjustment holes.
- New rear hubs.
- New rear outer hingepins now 3-millimeters thick (original 8IGHT= 2.5mm)
- New brake discs.
- Machined slots in the chassis help align the engine mounts, so you know your engine is perfectly straight. This ensures proper gear mesh.
- Swaybars are now etched for quick identification.
- New servo tray places the throttle servo 7-millimeters further from the engine. This allows room for additional bracing to prevent the throttle servo from flexing under load.
- New body is smaller and the engine's cooling head is completely exposed for better cooling.

And the ones we already mentioned..

- It's even lighter!
- The chassis is longer.
- The chassis, shock towers and rest of the aluminum components are all now anodized black.
- The shock towers are 25% lighter.

So it's a new chassis, new shock towers, new turnbuckles, new caster blocks, new rear hubs, new sway bars, new disc brakes, new fuel tank, new outer rear hingepins which must mean new rear arms to fit the hingepins, new body, and a new servo tray. Either that's a heck of an expensive conversion kit, or that's a whole new buggy! Makes me wonder if there will be an 8ight-E 2.0 not after too long...

Yeah, im happy with my 8IGHT anyway. Don't really like the black. Won't stay black for long going around a offroad track
