BL Motor for Rustler - 09.19.2008, 03:37 PM

Right now I've got a Ruster with FLM chassis and rpm arms. It's a bit heavier than stock, but very durrable. I've got a 5700mm combo in it right now that flies, but the motor seems to get hot 200F regularly (I may have already gottem it to hot but that is another story). I also have a modded mm with an external bec. That I'll be able to run 4S and 5S on if needed.

I want to get this thing to 80mph and I've seen a few do it with 4S and the velenion motor 3500kv I think. I'm thinking about the medusa motors 4800kv and the 3300kv or the velenion.

Does anyone have any sugestions to me for the BL motor that will get me to my goal?

I am hoping to gear for 80mph on 4S, and run it on 2S and 3S while bashing. Any tips are appreciated. thanks.

-Brian

I'm pretty sure that he was using the velenion motor and I'm wondering if the medusa will be a better option or not.

it would be a much better option, the Medusa will have more torque which would enable you to gear up more with less heat issues

Yes the medusa is a much more powerful motor. Sunny has recently tested on 6s with the medusa and its veery fast.

I think Sunny roasted his Velineon. The Medusa is a much better motor.

+1 for the medusa, I have the 50mm 4800kv in a crt.5 and it pushes that around at 40MPH on 2s and only hits 125*F so I would think the 3300kv would do pretty good on 4s, I'm sure it'll get a bit warmer spinning faster but the crt.5 is 4wd and puts a good load on the motor. Best part is a Medusa is only a few bucks more than a Fiegao and around half as much as a Neu!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to get the medusa 3300kv and run it on 3-5 cells. What would you guy's sugegst for gearing? 3.17mm shaft or 5mm shart and convert to a revo sper/ slipper setup.

Right now I've got a stock Rustler trans case with a metal idler gear that seems to be holding togeather okay. Already ate the diff gear once, but am going to the steelringed version next time. Should I upgrade to the FLM aluminum trans case? thanks

I think you will need the FLM case - I just tried to swap to a mod 1 revo spur last night with a 7L with RCM heatsink - It wouldn't fit.

With no heatsink you might be ok.

PS I would go 5mm...
