venturing into buggy land.... - 10.03.2008, 07:47 PM

I'm buying a Kyosho Inferno 777 (100 bucks off Craigslist). This will be my first buggy, and am looking forward to this - buggies have always intrigued me, but they seemed real expensive for what they were (compared to MT's and truggies). But this deal popped up, and I couldnt refuse. I have a 10L to use in it, or maybe one of my Novak 4.5's.....
Looking for any tips from you guys with experience may have in converting this. I'll have to start reading this forum and do some research.

What batteries are you going to use - Mike setup is perfect for a 4s pack...

Or castle have a kit coming for the 777 for saddle packs

I have no idea. I wasnt really looking to even buy one, but in my daily classified search, this popped up. Seems too good of a deal to pass up. I run A123's right now, but it would seem to me that a light buggy setup would be better on a lipo. And if I did get lipos, I would get minimum 4S, so I could use them in the MT's and Hellfire.

Anyone with an X-Ray can't be considered "less fortunate"!!

I just did a quick search of fleabay, and its suprising how these dont hold any value. Their prices look to be lower than those of typical MT's (Emaxx, Revo, T-Maxx), especially consdering that they sell for more new.
This one still looks to be a good price (just waiting for him to get his address to me).

Wait a minute...that's THREE X-Ray's in Three months!?!?!?!?!? WTF!

The reason you see so many buggies out there and them not holding value like a MT is it seems the manufactures release e new model almost every year or at least every other year which drives the value of last years version down.

Buggies are great. You will like it. They are the toughest vehicle in rc bar none.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

This turned into an interesting story about a young feller not understanding some of the basics of buying and selling. He had told me (via email) to come by prior to 6:30pm the first evening. I responded and asked for his address and if he could please call me back. At about 6:15 he finally sent an email back with his address. He lived about an hour away (in traffic), thus, I couldnt make it. He then told me to come by tomorrow (which would have been Saturday), and he'd let me know when. Well, Sunday morning I finally got another email from him, and I responded that I'd like to come by in about an hour, but I had some things to line up first - so could he please give me a call. I didnt hear anything back from him, so by the time I got over there, I was about a half hour later than "in an hour or so". He wasnt there, but his mother answered the door (didn't know anything about it). She called him, and in a few minutes, brought out this old backpack and said it was in there. It took a few minutes to extract it from the back pack, as it was all tangled up in this clothsline cord, and was covered from front to back with nitro grim, dirt and leaves. Basically a completely unmaintained pile of who knows what. I told his mom that I really couldnt justify spending the money on something in that condition and left.
Later that night I get this email from him, he was all indignant over why I didn't buy it. I tried to explain to him (somewhat patiently) how if he wanted to sell something, he needed to actually put a little effort into it (clean up the car, phone calls, actually take the time to meet me, etc). Hopefully he learned something.

So I'm back in the market.....patiently!

Wow, sounds like he didn't really want to sell it! Good thing you didn't get it. Aside from being dirty, everything was probably rusted and just torn up.

May just have to look for a roller on eBay or something...

Yep, I've got my eye on a few right now. But my Hellfire is still sitting on a shelf, and I can feel it glaring at me.......probably should get that thing going before I throw another project on the bench.

That Hyper was tempting me, but I am picking up a Mugen MBX5R tomorrow for the same (100) from another local guy. And he called tonight and said He just got done putting it back together after cleaning it up!
